Should I buy this for my old DVD collection?

I have a new Samsung HD DLP 1080p and I am using a PS3 to play all DVDs. Should I get a Pioneer DV48 to upconvert all my older collection? I am also getting a Onkyo TX SR 875 to replace my 8 year old Onkyo unit.

The PS3 does do upconverting of DVD's but have read that some dedicated units do it abit better, how much I don't know.

Just played Dark Knight thru it (not Blue Ray) and could not get it to fill the screen.

Do you have the widescreen version of the movie? Black bars on the bottom and top? That is the preferred aspect ratio to see the movie the way it was intended.

Yep. Just thought it was a waste of real- estate but if that’s the way it is then so be it. I caught your thoughts earlier and realize now what I should do. Thanks. It's just all so new and daunting to me sometimes I guess.
