Shorter and longer term AVR solution

Looks like it’s from 2009. From my short reading it seems like for its size, it was fairly good for its time. In fact it probably sounds good with most music in a smallish to medium sized room. However, it’s probably not lost on you that they’re are subs today that are more linear and better overall. Whether that matters to you, I surely can’t say. I would personally look at updating for my own needs though.

Actually, I bought it in 2000, if you can believe it.

At least yours is better looking. Those blocky feet are fugly on the new ones.

Well, normally this is where the whispers start coming in to upgrade. Seems that you like the strata so... Guess it depends. Are you receptive to that? Or too many things in front of that?

There are definitely other things before that, but I'm open to the possibility or at least suggestions. I actually would like to replace all of the speakers and the sub, but as I think I mentioned at some point, the room is a little awkward and there is a possibility we might only be in this place for a few more years, so I would hate to buy things with a particular space in mind only to feel like I want to do it again when the space changes... but who knows what will actually be or the timing.

As a novice, how can I most closely replicate something like this on the Marantz?

1. Manually increase all the speaker channel trim levels by +5.0dB (this will affect DEQ).
2. Set Audyssey to Audyssey Bypass L/R
3. Turn on Dynamic EQ - try the different offset levels
4. Subwoofer Channel levels - try different levels

I ultimately decided against getting the TSR-700. And to make things a little more complicated I decided to take the old receiver in to a service guy to get an estimate and see if it was worth salvaging. He says he didn't really hear a hum. In any event he said it is in great shape, maybe just needs to be cleaned up, connections tightened and a bit of soldering. He will run an in depth bench test to make sure there isn't anything else going on. Work would cost less than $100 -- he won't charge if for some reason it doesn't take care of the issue.

Seems foolish not to have that done, but then I'll need to decide if I should just use it to buy myself time while all of the new stuff finally makes its way to the market, bugs are worked out and there are reviews.
