I must disagree with the young man who stated that Sherwood wasn't a very good receiver it's one of the best receivers on the market today it is a steal for the price it sounds like a $5,000 piece of equipment I've enhanced minds with a preemplified mixer and a preamplified equalizer although I'm not using the equalizer but just to preamplified part of it I turn the bass all the way up and the treble on the receiver and it is pushing
8 Cerwin Vega earthquake 15 inch speaker's with fog horns 40 in my max volume the receiver goes all the way up to 65 on the volume pod anything past 40 I'll blow out my speakers I cannot believe how loud and how much bass and thrust is coming from this one receiver I'm asking the world out there does anyone know if this receiver is underrated in Watts I have to disagree with the post of the man who stated that Sherwood receivers are not that great I have been dealing with power amps such as fisher Sony sanyo pioneer onkyo techniques Lexmark and many others and this receiver the Sherwood 4109 sounds better has more power and thrust than any of these receivers are mentioned if you doubt me grab one off of eBay add an equalizer to it and be careful when you turn it up make sure you also turn up the base to Max and the trouble to Max so far I had to stay maxed out at parties playing it at 40 high powered speakers rumbling all over the place for four and a half to 5 hours and never had so much as a bump in the road it never got hot and it sounded like a $5,000 receiver or power amp.
That said there was a reason why the Sherwood receivers blow out and that is because they're designed to use only 8 ohm speakers or 16 ohm speakers they do not handle forearm speakers nor do any high-powered equipment handles the four ohm speakers because when your speakers are in 4 ohms you are doubling the power output of your amplifier and many amplifiers cannot cope with this dropping them to four arms make them work harder and you can short out the output transistors that is why it's a good idea to find yourself a pair of 8 ohm good vintage or new speakers attaching to this receiver put an equalizer on it and crank up the volume and you were here just what I hear disco sound from one receiver it's heavy about 20 lb black face is one of the newer models other than the vintage I believe from 1990 era and I am so satisfied with it I bought two more off of eBay for a total of three Sherwood 4109 receivers I use them to DJ with at parties and for my own personal use in my large living room I also watch movies with my 200 inch screen projector plugging it in the output line gives it another boost it is unheard of the sound that comes from this receiver with only four total harmonic distortion you turn this receiver up it just gets louder with no distortion it sounds great perfect it will make your chest rumble so I disagree totally with anyone that says that these receivers are garbage they're the best thing out there for the price and even if they were priced $800 or $1,000 the sound coming from these units are excellent put this next to any five $6,000 receiver play them both at the same time close your eyes and you won't be able to tell one from the other that's how good it is but don't take my word for it try it yourself I've had so many receivers and power amps I wish I learned this sooner but they say in this world you learn from your mistakes all it took me $10,000 in cash to learn from these mistakes by buying and repairing these vintage amplifiers I just wanted a little piece of when the United States was great so I keep these receivers in Iraq along with my vintage Cerwin Vega Amps.

At first I did not like the newer digital equipment until I listen to the Sherwood 4109 receiver ask for my electronics repairman.
He told me to stop wasting my money in these old vintage receivers and amps and try using some of the Sherwood receivers so 3 years later I listen to him and I couldn't believe it I was 100% wrong the Sherwood 4109 sounded better than any receiver I've ever had it had more bass highs and mids and it was so clear when you turn it up the only thing happens is that it gets more powerful and the sound is totally clear and free of distortion.
I've decided to use these receivers when DJing at parties indoors and outdoors I'm noticed that I had effortlessly no problem whatsoever pushing these huge vintage speakers.
My only question to anyone out there does anyone know if the shield would 4109 is under watts in power.
They stayed as a hundred watts per channel but I have to say there is no way on god's Great earth that this app is 100 watts per channel it's more like 200 or 300 watts pajama but you can never turn it up to prove it to be so without blowing out your speakers so if anyone has any information please send it to me or post it I believe these amplifiers are on the Watts and he asked of what they're posting every one of them that states 100 watts per channel which is most of them I believe are 200 watts per channel there's no way 100 watt per channel amplifier can push all these vintage earthquake speakers someone has the answer out there please let me know

All you need in a receiver is reliability. All the rest of the stuff is truly trivial. No reason to think this brand is any better or worse than some other brand. If it does what you want it to do and holds together, all is good. My receiver is 7 years old and running like it did on day one. All is good.

I love old equipment I have purchased receivers such as onkyo marantz pioneer sansui techniques and many other receivers I must say out of all the vintage receivers that I have noted I have not heard anything like the Sherwood 4109 I usually DJ in nightclubs in New York I have been using Cerwin Vega vintage equipment that is over 50 years old.
The a2200 the A3000i and the A1800.
I was extremely happy with the amount of wattage and sound coming from these vintage units some of them are almost 75 lb in weight and our bulletproof and solid steel some of them still have the original parts the only thing I've changed in two of them or the filter capacitors not that they needed to be changed but I felt more comfortable and changing them rather than having a gig and have one of them fail.
That said Tom electronics repair in Augusta Georgia informed me to stop wasting my money on these old apps and getting them fixed why don't I try a Sherwood receiver three years ago I laughed at him I said they would never be able to hold up with the amount of speakers and power I push and demand when having gigs.
Well I was made to look like a fool when I decided to buy one off of eBay just to play around with it for $75.
I hope the Sherwood 4109 to my equalizer and preamplified mixer I then hook them up to my Cerwin Vega vintage earthquakes all 8 of them.
Turned the volume on the receiver up to 40 and the mixer volume halfway and it almost blew out my windows and cracked my ceiling and walls with the amount of power that was coming out of this receiver unlike the vintage Vega receivers I felt like I was going to blow out my speakers with this show with AM FM receiver I was astonished by it I couldn't believe it I was totally wrong and spend thousands on this vintage equipment to find out I could have purchased these little sure would receivers to do the same job for less than 300 bucks at this time I purchased three more from eBay.
One for $75 free shipping the other two for $35 with $25 shipping all three of them work perfectly and all three of them were tested on the same speakers noted and all three of them put out enough power to blow my eardrums out and the rock any nightclub I couldn't believe it the only thing I could say is they have to be underrated in Watts these things are not 100 watts per channel they could not be because the speakers that I am using are vintage high wattage speakers 1 watt to move 500 watts Max RMS per cabinet.
That said I never had to use the equalizer just the equalizer preamplifier the mixer has a bass and treble control on it and I turned up the basin treble control to maximum on the receiver the sound was astonishing I couldn't believe it so if you want to receiver that will rock your speakers get yourself a Sherwood for $35 or maybe just a little more on eBay the 4105 and the 4109 are the same it's just the 4109 as a turntable input in the 4105 does not but they both are rated for the same underrated watts of 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms only.
No matter what anybody tells you I am a professional and I have tested many amplifiers and receivers and I come back with this statement I've never heard anything for the price sound is good as these Sherwood receivers take my word for it they rock.....

Yes you are correct but I never new a 100 watt per channel was so powerful and loud and sounds so good.
I hooked up a EQ and a mixer to the AUX of the 4109 then put 8 Cerwin Vega vintage earthquake speakers and put the 4109s volume at 40 and the thing blew me away I also put the bass and highs at max on the 4109 but never had to use the EQ just the preamps on both units.
It sounds like a $5000 power amp I placed a fan on top of it but the thing never got warm or hot after playing loud for 6 hours the bass and high I felt like studio 54 I mean it.
So please can you help me there is no way this thing is 100 watts per channel.
It must be underrated on the WPC is there anyway to find this out.
Many of the Sherwood models
State 100 watts per channel but I say no way the thing sounds louder than the Cerwin Vega a3000i rated at 365 wpc and I have to turn it all they way up.
The 4109 if I turn it past 40 I feel like the speakers will blow.
The Sherwood 4109 volume pod goes up to 65 max I never ever got it past 40 can you help with any info that can make me understand how this is possible....

Lots of things can cause that. It can result from differences in the taper of the volume controls. It can be different approaches in measuring and stating power specifications as another example.. I wouldn't spend any time worrying about it. If the unit gets the job done then just enjoy it.

Information update.......
Cerwin Vega vintage power Amps were developed and used for the movies like earthquake Censoron and the presiding adventure.
They store these giant 18 inch woofers under the seats in the theaters to create the real effects of being in an earthquake these huge speakers needed huge power amps to maintain the sound.
Henceforth the creation of the first series of huge power amps with huge transformers and capacitors ever made in the United States
Most of them were built in Hollywood California.
The history of these power amp goes as far as 1958.
This year was the first huge power amps to not use any tubes they had tremendously large capacitors and transistors and large transistorized caps sometimes holding 10 to15 and 20 output caps per amplifier
They had raw power some as high as 500 watts per channel others as low as 300 watts per channel which was needed to push these huge 18-inch woofers that were placed all over the movie theater to create the sound of the movie and to put you in it.
Later these power amplifiers were used in disco clubs all over the world.
Studio 54 the down under iniquities in many other nightclubs used the Cerwin Vega speakers and amplifiers they will bulletproof and last forever I have owned 12 of them I still have three after all these years they all are still working like new....
