Sandy Got Me Good, and you?

I found you a really nice turntable on eBay last night for $45. Its parts or repair, but it is very clean. I bet I will have it up and running quite quickly.

I have a Quad 33 preamp. I would like to mate it with a 405 II 100 watt per channel current dumping amp. If you want the power amp, I can go through one pretty quickly and get it top notch. The Quad 33 came out of service downstairs within the year, and is perfect.
That's awesome of you, Mark. Just outright awesome.

That's a mess. I found you a really nice turntable on eBay last night for $45. Its parts or repair, but it is very clean. I bet I will have it up and running quite quickly. The only thing that might defeat the plan is if there is an NLA chip in the motor generator/Tach blown. It looks like brand new, so I thought it worth gambling on.

It is not Far Eastern junk either. If this works out you will have a very nice and good looking turntable.

I doubt you are in an extreme hurry for this, by the look of the pictures, so that will give me time to get everything ready.
That is very generous of you, but it might not be worth it if his record collection got trashed too. Rebuilding a record collection would be a serious PIA, I hope mine never get destroyed, because if it did, that would be the end of vinyl for me. I remember losing a bunch of laserdiscs in a flood, my eyes still get moist when I think about my criterion edition LD of Robocop.

I know he did not have a vast collection of records, and was just starting out building his collection. I know he is interested in vinyl and had two nice turntables.

If he does not want it, I will give it to one of my sons for Christmas. I think it is a better one than he has.

At the price it was too good to pass up and is a small gamble at the price. $45 for Heaven's sake. Restored to working condition, it would bring me a handsome profit on eBay or Audiogon in any case. This is a really small gamble as far as I'm concerned, and one I will win more likely than not. Odds are much better than in Vegas!

I know if I lost my vinyl I would not try to rebuild the collection. However almost all of my collection dates from the pre digital CD era. I would really be upset to loose it though. I very nearly did once in 1979.

Hmmm, it's been a lonnnng time since I've had any vinyl, but I'd have thought that if it only got wet, you could just clean and dry the records and they'd be fine. Of course, the sleeves might be a write-off, but you'd still have something to play. I could be wrong though...

Oh, and Mark, that's very good of you.

Today I went to target to get some crates, battery charger, a pair of boots and 2 warm shirts. I did not get a chance to go back to the apt today since there is hardly any gas to be had for cars in our area. TLS that is so great of you to think of me. I will humbly except your offer. The albums are in my bookshelf, but not sure if they will be stuck together in there. I will check to see their status If i get there tomorrow. Man I am so humbled by our forum memberS I can't tell how many times I've cried today reading this thread and PM's Thanks from the bottom of my heart. It a start of my healing and millions of other hurting like me. I'm single, but Sorry ADAM I'm a Male. I was able to save a baby picture of me from the ground that was in a frame.

Sorry that Sandy got you

Afterlife, the derecho that tore through my neighborhood June 29 left me without power for eight days. So when Sandy was forecast to make landfall over Washington D.C. I assumed the worst. Monday night I chewed my nails down to the cuticles worrying that our sixty + year old maple tree would fall down, but it didn't. Amazingly, we didn't lose power either. But for the flutter of a butterfly Sandy hit NYC and NJ hardest instead.

The derecho blewn down a tree, killing a woman riding her moped home. Though you lost most of what you cherish to flooding, you are still alive and you have family and friends to depend on. I know this isn't much comfort to you, but I had to respond and say I wish you well.

Thank you I do consider myself lucky. The water was up to my waist trying to make my way up to the 2nd floor along with my other neighbors. It was frighting as heck. Thank you for the kind words. I will never forget Oct 29 7PM when I looked out my window and saw the water rushing in from the street. 2 hrs later the cars were covered in water to the roof of the cars.:(

Sorry to hear that OP.

We had two inches of water in the basement. The damage it caused was less than our deductible so we didn't even bother to make a claim.
