Come this Friday Samsung will release the much anticipated firmware upgrade that allows players to increase functionality and enhanced playability of advanced copyright protection BD+. The firmware will be offered for Samsung's first and second generation models: BD-P1000 and BD-P1200, for both models BD+ will be fully playable

Due to consumer complaints when viewing Fantastic Four Rise of The Silver Surfer, Samsung felt compelled to move as quickly as possible with the update. Samsung stated, "The firmware update will resolve freezing issues experienced when viewing Fox titles and their BD+ feature."

Additionally, the firmware for Samsung's BD-P1200 will fix audio noise and improve overall playback compatibility on certain movies and up-grade in-movie game performance.

Users can download or burn to disc the firmware from Samsung's website, BD-P1200 users have the option access update via their player's Ethernet connection.

Firmware Updates

Stratman-I'm writing to ask about these firmware updates that come across any number of products & wondering what level of laptop performance & essential software needs to be obtained when doing one of these updates which I assume is via the RS-232 jack.
I'm VERY technically (COMPUTER) challenged & am hoping to understand this better.
Thank You!

Hey B,

For this particular application, go to Samsung's site, they post minimum requirements, if you have a Samsung player you can download using your ethernet port or you may download from the site by burning a CD.

What about the 1400?
The BD-P1400 plays the Fox discs fine and is currently the only HD player on the market that will pass through DTS-HD Master Audio through HDMI as bitstream. It does not need any updates.

No problem - I was so close to picking one up myself when I found out about the DTS-MA bitstream, but I'm holding off to CES 2008 to see what coming out over the next few months afterwards.

I think the Denon BD is going to be a little out of my price range, but I'm interested in seeing what Pioneer Elite is going to come out with. Hopefully an SACD/DVD-A/BD/DVD/CD player with DSD through HDMI and I'm sold.
