Anyone have a grainy picture using bluray discs on this player? It is almost like a static like picture sometimes with color, best way I can describe it.

Sometimes directors will film movies to look grainy on purpose. 300 being one of those as an example.

Which movie are you talking about?

That is very true. I know 300 was like that, the whole graphic novel deal. I am noticing it in many others though. The Pirates movies, Stargate, Casino Royal, Departed, even fifth element. I'd like to experiment with a calibration dvd if there is such a beast worth buying?

I haven't noticed anything like that. Some darker scenes in movies are kind of grainy because of the lighting and the camera, but that is the only time I have ever seen a grainy effect (except for when it's done on purpose, 300).

 I owned this unit for all of one week before I took it back because of the very issues that you are lamenting. 300 as well as others were atrocious on the player with lots of artifacting, strange "pulsing" in dark shadowy scenes, and to me an overall lack of build quality you get when you buy say a Denon or Pioneer Elite unit. Are you stuck with it or do you have some recourse to perhaps trade it in?

You need to calibrate the HDMI TV input for use with your BDP-1400. You can buy the AVIA or DVE calibration DVD. Worth the investment. The SD DVD version will do. Tried the HD DVD DVE and my SD DVD AVIA does the job as effectively.

New TV's today have several HDMI inputs and each may be calibrated for different players or for a STB.
