The Moody Blues just released SACD's in the amount of five, I believe. The Who's Tommy is good, so is Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. There are a few Rolling Stone ones available (not a fan though). I'd love to see more titles of rock on SACD as well.
Genesis is suppose to be releasing there entire catalog on SACD (multichannel)... but they are dragging *** getting them released!

I want more!

Where can I found out more information on this? I like Genesis and would most likely buy all of the available albums if they released them in mulichannel high res.

The plan is to release them ALL in multichannel including the official Live albums + plus some Live stuff from board tapes that have never been released. Many suspect that this fall may be the time that they release them because there has been a lot of media attention recently regarding a reunion and what-not. We'll see! I for one, can't wait for these to be released.
Oh, They have remixed in for 5.1, everything thus far from Trespass 1970, to Invisible Touch 1986 minus live albums. We can't dance is next.

SACD/DVD AUDIO is probably going to be dead soon anyways

Truth is, even prominent people in the sound field know both the failure of DVD audio and SACD, most people don't care about being the sound quality of music. If you click this link it is interesting as to read an interview.

http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=32150

"Indeed, the failure of the DVD-A and Super Audio CD formats as well as the carelessness with which most people place speakers in their homes (on the floor, behind a chair, etc., instead of mounted at ear level) and use crappy, ear-damaging earbud headphones attest to general public's insensibility to sound in space and listening in general."

That article was about Intergrating Sound and Art

Video and Movies play a huge part in sound, mainly because every young guy or gyal out there, would be yeah- I wanna hear this movie in Surround Sound!, as a result 5.1,6.1, and 7.1 speakers are common nowadays but then again HTIB and cubed speakers kinda negate progress. Thing is though there is an interest in surround sound and that drives the market for more so then multi-channel audio and music, which I admire and love myself.

BLU-RAY and HD-DVD will make DVD and SACD obsolete. The only reason sacd and dvd-audio probably came about is becaue of "copy protection". Since BR and HD dvd has copy protection features everyone will probably migrate to those for music.

The Playstation 3 would probably contribute to blu-ray's success. But how many people out there(mass market) are going to have HD tv's with hdmi, the latest receivers and 7 speakers with a subwoofer. Most people and consumers would probably still use the "composite" video/audio output of the blu-ray and hd-dvd and play stereo. The PS2 and xbox already have hdtv output and surround sound. Walk in to your friend's house/most people wound't have that- or if they do its probably cubed speakers.

Hopefully though Multi-Channel Music will come to light, now did artist really win out with copy-protection on dvd-audio and Sacd in terms of sales, Uh No.

When Blu-ray and HD-DVD comes to the computer it will probably be cracked mathematically.

Thanks for compiling that list dvda-sacd. You did however, miss the point completely ...sorry dude..

there are many players that play SACD. It's the titles available. Or lack of popular titles I should say. The music industry is clearly pointing towards convenience, like downloads with crappy quality, over high rez music. It's the facts unfortunately.

SACD is basically an audiophile format. You cannot expect it becomes an standard.

Blu Ray is not competing with SACD, because SACD is not an audio-visual format.

Again, completely missed my point. This thread is about the software available, not the hardware.

That Philips player is pretty. Still would never claim ownership to a Philips product however. They are an par with names like Curtis, Lloyds, Yorx etc. Yeah I know they invented the CD but their equipment sucks.

Now we're going off topic a bit, but Philips products aren't all that bad. They make a lot of stuff as an OEM that goes into other big name manufacturer's products. True, their cheap stuff is just as bad as anyone else's cheap stuff, but that is to be expected.

I doubt Sony would compete against their own format, but thing is they may phase out SACD. Digital is Digital, it doesn't matter what format in terms of having the equipment to play it. Whether you play a movie from a dvd, a hard disk, or wherever as long as its the same digital data it doesn't matter.

If you notice that on the audioholics reviews of CD's and Movies, some titles are in DTS format- so they are probably on DVD's. SACD/DVD-AUDIO was probably introduced because of copyright issues, its almost impossible to copy a SACD and while dvd-audio has been cracked, its not so widespread implemation hasn't scrahted heads.

How many millions of ordinary consumers own SACD?, I was thinking of getting the denon-2910 for a couple reasons, but I guess I am holding back on SACD, hdmi 1.2 and above is compatible with it, but hdmi 1.2 receivers, I have only seen 1.1 so far

save your money on the Denon 2910.

I have had it six months. While a fine player, others will do comparable for a third the price.

The 2910 has a hard time with burned DVD's, will not play DIvX, fussy with other discs too ,has a green push, and most importantly, not worth paying to get into the world of SACD/ DVD A unless you like obscure music the masses have never heard of. One can only listen to Dark Side of the Moon so many times and the CD sounds just fine.

Disadvantages out weigh the positives from my experience. I have lost faith in the 2910 for the reasons listed above.

I think that's an unfortunate remark. Do you refer to Mark Knopfler, Depeche Mode, The Moody Blues, Diana Krall, Beck, Miles Davis, Carpenters, Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Deep Purple, David Bowie, Sting, etc?

Have to agree here. Just because YOU don't find titles you're interested in doesn't mean that others won't. There are plenty of titles available, maybe you need to take a look at some new music. However, it would be a good idea to do a little research to find out if there are enough titles on either/both first to see how much use you might get out of it.

Nor are the thousands of classical and jazz SACDs of "obscure" music! They make up the backbone of the Western musical tradition.

Diana Krall is ON SACD, I thought she was on dts I hope she is atleast on dvd-audio, In any case DVD-audio has been more of a success that SACD, even cheap oppo player supports dvd-audio and so do many pc's that have a creative labs card(audigy 2 or higher except for the "value" card)

You simply cannot convince someone of a good thing if they refuse to hear it. I love sacd, and in numerous genres...rock, pop, blues, jazz and classical.

I haven't seen any Depeche Mode or Rolling Stones on SACD. I will have to look into this.

I may have been wrong on my choice of words, however, Beck is the only thing I have seen from contemporary rock artists from your list and the last CD, Guero, was on DVD-A not SACD. And Sea Changes does not really interest me. If you read all my posts in this thread, I am saying if you are into contemporary, popular music, which is not jazz, classical, or Rolling Stones for that matter, forget SACD. Not worth basing your decision on a player for this format if you don't care for the music available.

Nobody here can dispute the fact that new releases are not being released on SACD, they are on Dualdisc. There is some good music being released. The new Red Hot Chilli Peppers album is amazing (I haven't been able to turn it off since it came out last Tuesday), Coldplay is great, Tool's new album would have been good on SACD, so while most new music is garbage, there is some good.

I hope I explained myself a little better now.
