I can not get my system to play sacd disks in 5.1 only stereo. Receiver is a Denon AVR-2307CI and the Dvd/cd player is a Denon DVD-2910 .Both bought new by myself. DVD is connected to Receiver with HDMI for dvd playback and has analog cables out to EXT IN on receiver. I have disconnected HDMI cable no change . HELP!!

Bab,

I would imagine this most certainly has something to due with the audio settings in the set-up menu for the player. I would check the DVD-3910 review here on Audioholics as I know it is a thorough write up and settings dealing with multi-channel audio was covered...

bab, from my experience you need to have a digital connection and then choose 5.1 out in the setting on your player. also make sure that amp is set to receive the output you choose eg;HDMI, optical or coaxial. Hope this helps.

You need to use optical or coaxial to get 5.1 ..
The OP is trying to do SACD in 5.1 so optical or coax will not work. For multi ch sacd you need to either use the 5.1 analog inputs or a player that is capable of doing multi ch sacd over HDMI. That Denon cannot do multi ch sacd over hdmi so 5.1 analog is the only option.

bab how many analog cables do you have going to your receiver? You need 5 analog cables going from the multi ch output on the player to the multi ch inputs on the receiver.

Not to be pesky but you need 6 cables.

Yeah, you need to use 5.1 Analog Output and Set the HDMI Audio setting to either MUTE or 2Ch Stereo, not Multi-Ch 5.1.
