SACD and OPPO DV-980H

I want to hook up my OPPO to my Yamaha RX-V659 so I can listen to SACD. Of course the Yamaha does not have HDMI so I will be using the RCA plugs. However I also use it for HT and have the audio from the OPPO to the Yamaha connected via the digital optical. My question is do I need to unplug the RCA plugs when listening to HT and unplug the digital optical when listening to SACD's? I read the OPPO manual and in the audio setup section it said to use the PCM and not the DSD output for the multi-channel output. If this is the case does the player differentiate between a SACD and a DVD and send the signal through the correct interconnects. Thanks for any help and hopefully the question isn't as confusing as it sounds to me

I believe the 659 has 8-channel Ext. Input. In that case you would run 6 rca, analog lines from the Oppo's analog out to the Yamaha's Ext. Input. Hook up your digital optical to the DVD port and the analog stuff to the Ext. Inputs. So you'd watch DVD's through DVD mode and listen to CD's/SACD's/DVD-A's through the Ext. Input mode. You simply need to change the mode, not cables. Even if the player sends it through both interconnects, the receiver is only processing one because of the mode.

Since you don't have HDMI, it won't be an issue. Yes, it will send via the correct output for movies vs music because SACD and DVD-A can only be sent out via the multichannel analog or HDMI not optical.

Thanks guys. I thought it wouldn't make any sense to be switching out cables
