RXV657... Any Idea?

I was wondering if there was anyone here who has purchased or used a Yamaha RXV657 ... if so could they offer an opinion on its performance?.
I am making an upgrade (a BIG one) from a Kenwood VR-507 (bought with the Kenwood HTB-504 in 2002. Since then I have upgraded the Speakers to JBL S36II (will be my rear channels) X 4
JBL E35 (centre channel)
and luckily my Uncle Denis is buying a new speaker set so I will inherit his Paradigm tower speakers (I don't know the model numbers but they aren't very old and kick butt through his HK stereo receiver). I also have a 90 watt powered sub but it is getting old and will be replaced eventually. The reviews I'm finding appear to be very good/excellent but I can only find a limited number of user opinions... thus the title of this thread.

It's not a bad AVR. I'd say it's comparable to a Denon 2105. It's a few models beneath the popular Yamaha 1500 (which is the sister AVR of the Yamaha 5890).

It's rated at 95x7 rms, 20-20,000Hz at 8ohms and .06thd (respectable), and weighs 27.9lbs.

Have you purchased the unit already? If so, I think you'll enjoy it. Paradigms could be taxing to many mid priced AVR's - depending on how hard you drive it. Just keep an eye on the units temperature. If the top is too hot to touch, you need to give it a rest. Paradigm towers will put just about any sub $1500 AVR to the test if you push it hard enough.

Stormy, I've got the RX-V750, which is very close to the 657. I've been completely happy with its performance regarding both movies and music. I have a relatively small room, and very basic requirements, so the 750 met my needs perfectly. If you too don't have a huge room nor a need for HDMI, then the 657 should suit you fine.

cheers,

Thanks for replying so quickly because I was going to buy this tomorrow... I'm pretty sure I will unless something else is too good to pass up.

I have the HTR-5860 which is identical to the RX-V657 model and would recommend it. If you don't mind refurbished, you might check the deals on ubid for a RX-V1500 or 2500 for $4-500.
