this discussion is exactly why i decided to buy the 2500, when it's price dropped after the 2600 was released. by buying last year's model, i not only saved about $500, but i also avoided worrying about "keep up with the joneses" with respect to HDMI. i am perfectly content with component video directly to my TV and running a digital coax from my DVD to my receiver for movie audio. if last year's technology was good enough for the world last year, i figured it was good enough for me now, and i was able to save some money to boot. i'll upgrade when high def, HDMi, etc. are more solidly refined and established, since i believe the new high def standards will be around for quite while, like tube TV's have been.
