Running mains at 60hz

Ditto 100%, from the time my parents bought their first TV back in the 60's my father had me as his remote control. Also an antenna when the rabbit ears needed a boost. :D
I was an antenna booster too! You brought up some memories for me. Remember the noisy dial thing for adjusting the antenna? When my dad upgraded, he built a 20' metal tower to mount it on. We had that noisy contraption on top of the tv when I was a kid.

We used to run outside and turn the antenna on the tower, via voice command thru the window. Then start heading back indoors to. . ..wait a minute, that's not it, or, "It's fine as long as you don't let go of it." :D

I find it odd that you turn your subs off. Most subs go into a standby mode until they are fed a LF signal and then they turn on automatically. Why not run them that way?

I thought I explained this, the wife, you know the other person who watches TV and movies does NOT want the subs on when she is watching TV, she is a woman, they can be quirky and less demanding on how things sound but she does want SOME bass. Hers is a very simple request, I understand her wishes for less bass when she has no wish for it so I have them powered on by a manual switch so the wife who I like to keep happy so I stay happy is happy.

When I watch TV with her (a rare event) I turn the subs on, she is fine with this when I'm with her as she knows having them on makes me happy. This works out well for us so while I know they can be left on, this does not work out for us due to WAF. ;)

She is great, but she has her limits. :) For instance, I found room in the living room for a 3rd MFW15 subwoofer and she said as long as it doesn't bother my TV watching sounds good to me. My response of course was how about a fourth MFW15, I have another in the basement as well. :D

I got the look at that point, like I said, she has her limits. :)

My mains will produce low bass; but, I set them at 60Hz so that they do not need to produce the lowest bass. Instead, I will turn on my sub if there is any low bass in the movie or music I want to enjoy. This allows the mains to work better.

This is so simple really. Now that you got her to agree to another sub, tell her in order for her requests to be perfect, that you need more capable main speakers.

I like running my main speakers full range. And while I like running the subwoofer, it would not confront me if I had to do without. This is another instance where "I" believe main speakers with larger woofers that can dig a little deeper with a potent, more realistic mid bass shine, in a 'best of both worlds' kind of way.

Even people who may be put off by the lowest sub bass frequencies, usually still like realistic mid bass. Regular television with whatever sub bass resides there all the time would irritate me too. I can imagine a lot of instances where it would be too much.
