My first thought was about how it would affect playing guitar.
My thought exactly too. I play (if you could call it that) a classical acoustic. You need a right thumbnail for that. Hopefully in time, it'll grow back!

LOL I think I may just get the whole cut at an auto sound system place. All these stories are giving me the willies.

It was my left index finger that got narfed. If it was my right index, I would just hold the pick with my thumb and middle finger, which I have done when I would hurt that one.

As I said before-if fear is what's going through your mind, power tools isn't the thing to work with. I caused the problem by trying to mill a small piece and I'll never do it that way again. Since I needed to finish my remodel and using the router was part of what I had to do, I went back out a few days later and if you ever watched the Drew Carey Show when Louis saw his reflection in the bathroom mirror, he looked at it suspiciously and said "So, we meet again". That's what I did and I've done quite a bit with it since, just more carefully.

Power equipment is not dangerous if you are mindful. I have had two close calls, both started by others stupidity and concluded because I was not mindful.

I not longer operate anything power when I am over tired. My one and only bad experience with an exposed power train takeoff resulted in me slamming into a tractor fender and the tractor stalling. Had it been newer bigger and more powerful, I would have lost my leg. I ALWAYS put the cover on the takeoff when I was not using it. Unfortunately, my father didn't, the jerk!

By the way, you can slice yourself very badly with a properly sharpened chisel and it has no motor.

You're right- being tired is definitely the right time to be using power tools. Another thing I absolutely do not tolerate is people touching me or startling me when I'm using any power tool.
