Rotel...why so retarded?

Every Denon amp/receiver I ever reviewed list a Max Power Consumption as AMPS. For example, the 5805 says "Max Power Consumption 13 amps". If you multiply that by 120V it equals 1,560 watts.

I prefer this rating as opposed to "Power Consumption in watts" that most receiver companies give as they rarely are rated at max but instead rated per UL/CSA of 1 or 2 channels driven at 1/8th power.
Oh, I see. I guess every company is different. I wonder if Marantz does something similar.

I already did dude. Take a look at my AV components in my sig.

Again, Im not faulting Rotel, merely making an observation.

To those who think HDMI should be avoided, well, we'd still be riding horses if we did the same to the horseless carriage.
Tubes & paper speaker cones have zero to do with the mess that is hdmi,if you like it thats fine but dont try to shed a negative light on those of us who see the negative issues with hdmi & are avoiding the whole mess until its brought tp market properly & without bugs.

And yes i prefer paper speaker cones.

more semantics for you ... :)

Again with the semantics, LOL!. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, and I do certainly respect it. I'm sure you've forgotten more about AV stuff than I'll ever know.

I believe you misconstrued my curiosity for contempt. Not the case, not at all. Sorry if it appeared so. I have no "beef" with anyone, especially Rotel. Hey, I like my Rotel's.

no, I'm still learning as I go along, I make mistakes more often than most people. I even have purchases I regret as well.

back OT: well, if you really are looking for the latest and greatest receivers, the frontliners are Onkyo, Denon, HK and Yamaha. check out the upcoming 08 series from denon.

This is the reason Outlaw stated as to why they didn't add HDMI.

Q. Why does the Model 990 have DVI switching instead of HDMI?

A. At this time we believe that the more stable DVI format is a more appropriate choice, since it is well established and totally compatible with HDMI from a video standpoint. Unfortunately, HDMI is still a moving target, with the 1.2 specifications still awaiting final release. More importantly, there is a big unknown regarding the specifications of the ñnextî version of HDMI that will allow transport of Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD data streams. (Indeed, the actual specs for the two codecs, themselves, have not been released either.) At this time it is impossible for the Outlaws or anyone else to know if a hardware, rather than software upgrade will be required to accommodate those two new formats on HDMI and with existing DSP engines. Quite frankly, we preferred to select a viable digital video format that is useable today rather than risk a high-cost solution that appears not to be ready for prime time.

Who cares if the model in question is a stereo receiver? The point remains that the boutique audio manufacturers don't keep up with technology or current trends and seek to justify the omissions by claiming that they put all the money into 'better' parts that improve sound quality.

Case in point: Outlaw. Probably pretty nice receivers but they chose to use DVI instead of HDMI and justify it by saying that video features are not important. If you are the type that does keep up with the latest formats, you'd better avoid the brands that don't have the latest features you need.

Lack of current features + high price == poor value proposition, regardless of 'sound quality'.

For a high roller like you. You should purchase both.
Now if only I had $2,000,000 to buy a house worthy of such luxurious consumer goods.......

Then again I could be one of those crazy rich people who live in a 30 year old trailer but keep six figures worth of gold bullion in the storm cellar.
