Rotel 1066 newbie question

Hello all,

I just started becoming an Audioholic and have a few questions...

This is my setup without wires (thats next)

Rotel 1066 Processor
Rotel 991 Power Amp
B & W 603 S3 Speakers
B & W 602 S2 Speakers (rear)

I bought this equipment slowly, but have hooked nothing up yet. The 1066 just came in. Heres the questions...

1.)Is the Rotel 1066 basically automated if needed?
2.)What are the best cheap wires available and what do I need to hook up this system plus cd and TV?
3.) Is there anything else I need to know to make this system its best?
4.) Any other advice?

Thanks

Nia

Welcome to Audioholics Niaspeed

Nice setup.... don't waste your money on "specialty wires".... there is nothing magical about speaker wire... you can also just go to home depot and grab wire there... or Go over to monoprice.com and get the right size for the right length...

Heres a chart for size vs length scroll down a bit for the chart...

I am not familiar with the Rotel processor, but as always, the manual should give you all the info you need for hookup...

Also there is a dedicated Rotel forum over at the HTGuide, not to send you elsewhere, but many more Rotel owners over there, I have a Rotel 1095 amp, so I got more familiar with Rotel over there... http://www.htguide.com/forum/forumdisplay.php4?f=20

Welcome! That's a nice setup you have going there. I agree with warp. Monoprice is a great place to get good cables for little coin. Bluejeanscable is another good place for cables.

Rotel 1066 newbie question Reply to Thread

Thank you for the info....do you have any information as to the Rotel 1066 as far as set up? Will I have to go thru many steps at startup or does the Rotel have a default that makes things easy. I have a feeling I may have a problem with the set up as it all looks a little foreign to me. I guess what I'm asking is- is the Rotel 1066 automatic or will I have to go thru all the manual steps?

Thanks again....it's great to get help.

Check back to my post, I added a link, you may not have seen it....

I personally feel everything should be configured manually...

good luck

the rotel is a great piece. It does not have auto set up, but you can do it yourself without too much effort.

matt is correct, you'll have to do the set-up manually. If I'm not mistaken, the RB-991 is a stereo (2-channel) amp but you're looking to hook up four speakers. You could connect the speakers in parallel to the amp, as it can handle a 4 ohm load, and as long as you don't crank it up the amp may be able to handle it. Otherwise, you may want another stereo amp or a single multi-channel amp.

I have a Revox B251 integrated amp....can I use that to power the rear speakers going thru the Rotel 1066 along with the Rotel Amp 991 2channel for the front speakers?

Thanks to all that help.

BTW there IS a difference in speaker wires and interconnects, some who question this either cant hear well enough or are too broke to be able to enjoy entertaining upper level wires. I am not saying every wire is worth it and that there are no frauds but to say wire makes no difference at all is small minded.
