Rock and Metal Headz Thread

I guess I just never grew up and out of Rock & Roll, I bought The Eagles "Hotel California" on 8-track when I was a kid. That got me going full speed into the 80's, where I am guilty of listening to the Hair Bands, but also discovered some good stuff like Metallica.

Then the '90's hit, Kurt Cobain busted loose big time and I believe started the grunge movement. Damn I used to wear out my Nirvana CD's. But things got dark...I bought Alice in Chains first album....

Flash forward to now, and if you look at my avatar (Native American) you'll see that I'm a Godsmack fan. Funny, but "Godsmack" is an Alice in Chains tune, and the group is Wicca Pagan if religion must be mentioned. The second and current drummer is Shannon Larkin, and he's bad ***. Look at this "Hard Rock" video of Shannon and the lead singer of Godsmack, Sully dual it out with some wicked Yamaha drum kits:

Anyways guys, who do you like? Turn me on to some new favorites.

I have listened to a lot of metal. My two favorite bands are The Dillinger Escape Plan, this is a hardcore metal band and they are CRAZY, they are super musicians, I find their music hard to follow sometimes because it is so fast and technical. Another favorite of mine is a band called Isis, their albums called Oceanic and Panopticon are amazing.

I grew up listening to heavy metal.

Iron Maiden, Savatage, Dream Theater, Poison, Metallica, Kiss, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Dio, and AC/DC are some of my favorite bands.

Well, Iron Maiden *is* my favorite band.

Current favorite is Protest The Hero.

Lots of timing changes and complex guitar and drum work. The kick drums have some good weight to them too.

I grew up on metal also. I loved Blue Oyster Cult, Kiss, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Van Halen, etc. My tastes have mellowed a lot since then. (Though Rage for Order by Queensryche, any Joe Satriani, and the first 3 BOC albums remain favorites.)

Oh yeah, Queensryche. Duh.

Few years back I saw Halford, Queensryche, and Iron Maiden.

All at the same show :D

The only thing that could have made that show better would have been for Ronnie James Dio himself to appear on stage and sing a duet with Dickinson LOL

I saw Maiden again just a month or so ago in New Jersey. Those guys are better than they've ever been.

While I don't listen to them much anymore, some of my favorite bands growing up were Judas Priest, Krokus, Black Sabbath, and Angel.

I recently bought Angel's greatest hits on CD. I'm not sure why, it's almost unlistenable to me now.

You part of their street team or something?
No, they're just the newest band I like.

Would be pretty stupid to be part of a bands street team. Almost as stupid as basing my screen name off a car I no longer own.

The group, Alice in Chains, isn't a Wicca Pagan group. It only exists in marketing. Nirvana became the figurehead for Grunge but they were just another band of many in that scene, during that same time. Just check out the history of it from local sources or the internet. There are many more from that scene that became overshadowed during that explosion. Hey, it's music, that happens.

How about He Is Legend? Or Helmet or Slipknot? How bout Down and Hellyeah. I think metal is making another comback in a big way. Black Sabbath and The Priest are touring this summer with Testament. That should be pretty cool......for fans of course..

I wasn't clear enough, GODSMACK is pagan, just go to www.godsmack.com and check it out.

Speaking of concerts last October I went to Alice in Chains and Velvet Revolver. Pretty good show. Best show I ever say was David Lee Roth in 1988 in Hampton Virgina. Or was it Monsters of Rock in Nuremberg Germany in 1987?

I'm a big Zakk Wylde fan, I think he has a great range of music, from heavy metal to stuff off his Hangover CD and Pride & Glory (basically, southern rock). As a former guitar player, his guitar playing absolutely floors me ...

Samples:

Farewell Ballad - Can this guy play or what?!

Crazy or High: Tune off Hangover Music Vol. 1

Bleed For Me (Live) - Notice the amps, the BLS concert I went too was the loudest concert I have ever been too.

Performing the National Anthem at a King Game (so frickin' cool)

World of Trouble, off Sonic Brew album: This tune ROCKS!

Now take a look at his take on Southern Rock, off the Pride & Glory album:

The great " "Losin' Your Mind"

Hope you like!

My god, I can't believe I missed this thread! I'm a huge rock and metal (mostly prog. metal) fan. My favorites include: Symphony X, Dream Theater, Opeth, Tool (not really metal I know), along with some older stuff like Rush, Iron Maiden, even a little Van Halen and Black Sabbath.

If you want some complex time changes/musical acrobatics, check the following out. Paticularly the last 2:00 or so, however, the bass solo is not to be missed either :D Enjoy!

P.S. I personally apologize if the terrible filmaking gives anyone a seizure.:p

I am trying to think of a reason to care, and I can't. They are welcome to believe whatever they want.
Nor do I :D ! But when you mention the name to some people they get the wrong idea. I have no less than six Godsmack music DVDs, and find the group quit laid back.

Carry on Metal Headz!

Thanks for the link, I'll prioritize that website for when I'm not searching for farting pandas on youtube.com

Great customer service rep

dorokusai - Keep up the great comments, I bet Matthew Polk doesn't know your doing such a fine job representing HIS company.

Farting Pandas have NOTHING to do with Rock and Metal, so go elsewear to troll when your in a better mood.

Thank You to everyone else for listing bands I've never heard before, but will try too now.

The first album I ever bought was by Black Sabbath and it just launched me into BOC, Montrose, Mohagany Rush, Robin Trower, Scorpions, UFO, Van Halen, and most of the classic hard rock of the 70s (not sure when it started being called "heavy metal."

In the 80s, I moved to Metallica, Megadeth, Metal Church, and many of the metal hair bands.

In the 90s, I found Dream Theater, Rob Zombie, Porcupine Tree, and Linkin Park.

Now I've found Arch Enemy and Arise and Ruin.

Never cared much for Godsmack.
