@3db , first off sorry about your wife. I hope you can find some comfort and enjoyment in the near future as you go through this tough time. Hoping I can help, even in a tiny way. But remember that it's a process and there are professionals who can help you through it.


My first impression is that your initial measurements look really good in the low bass. I'm impressed you're getting that flat of a response. The mid/high bass has a lot more variation, but on average you look pretty good.

That said, a second sub always helps you even the response throughout the room, so of course we're going to recommend that. But you're on the right track thinking about miniDSP too. Having individual phase and delay controls solves most of my room's issues, before using DSP to really fine tune. It was a revelation for me!

Here's what I learned from using miniDSP and REW to tackle the challenges of my room. the miniDSP takes time (expect hours of playing, and then when you get close, starting all over and getting a bit better ).

Just starting with REW & MiniDSP

So I’ve been taking some measurements with REW for a few weeks now and the MiniDSP I ordered will be here tomorrow. I’ve always had a dip at 90-100hz roughly and tonight I tried different crossover points, distance setting and eventually multiple locations for one of my 4 subs and my Mirage...

I've decided to tackle this again but in a different way. Room EQ was turned off, and the crossovers were set to 200Hz, the highest available setting on the AVR. Each graph has the 3 measurements across the width of the listener position (couch) but at a different location within the room.


I thinking I'm going with the new location as I get less variance across the seating position and another octave of response before it rolls off.

I have to play with Rythmik's settings next changing the roll-off of its filters and its EQ from extension to more midbass. I think I can get away with one sub based on what I'm seeing but I'm not sure.

I'm very happy with my results, combining a mini with Audyssey.

This is what I had to start with before doing anything.

This is where Audyssey got me after experimenting a little with placement.

That's not bad at all for Audyssey XT32 by itself, I say! It made it pretty easy for me to finish dialing it in for my final.

I have a thread documenting my progress but there's a lot of trial and error. Like, almost 40 pages of trial and error... lol. There might be some useful info in there somewhere tho if you flip through.
