Using some kind of active ventilation can help, but the chemicals are still toxic.

A rubber disc on a Dremel tool can be used, too- it grabs the old contact cement and flings it away. Large rubber discs are used to remove vinyl decals from cars & boats and my friends' upholstery shop uses one to remove the old foam padding from cardboard car headliners.

Yes, you must remove the dust cap. Shims are not optional!

That was just for reinforcement. Some here do question if shims are essential. If you don't use shims, you roll the dice and will loose more likely than not.

I just mentioned facilities that most will have. I have a big compressor and s wide variety of air tools, but they are not essential. Denatured alcohol is not toxic like ketones are.

Odd that we produce ketones under certain conditions, eh?

Denatured contains Ethanol AND Methonal- it's toxic, all right. Just don't drink it. However, if you're familiar with Zinnser alcohol-based primer, don't use that stuff in an enclosed space- you'll definitely feel the effects.

My dad knew some people who suffered serious problems from using Carbon Tetrachloride- nasty stuff.

Thanks to TLS guy's thread I got my JBL satellite speakers back to work. No more rattle. Got three extras in the kit in case this happens eventually with the other speaker.
