Recorded a Mono LP in Stereo. Ooops!

This afternoon, I recorded Greatest Hits of the Animals, which is a stereo LP. Then I recorded Best of the Animals Volume II, which is a mono LP but I had forgotten that until after I finished recording it so my AVR was not set to playback in mono. I am sure it sounds fine, but would it be better if I re-recorded it with the RZ50 set for mono? @TLS Guy would probably be a good guy to ask.

The answer to that is a may be. It really depends how good the cut of the record is and how symmetrical the groove walls are, as any errors will be magnified. I guess you won't know unless you listen to that mono record in mono and then stereo. If the channels coupled are better, then you need to record it again.

I'll take a careful listen tomorrow in both settings then. Thx!

Vol II is not a 1967 op. It is a 1986 re-issue on Polydor Records in case that matters.

How did you save the recording? If it was in a program where you store the other music, you may be able to make a copy in Mono. That way, you can compare before recording it again. Dependong on the program, you may be able to just change the setting. If it's on CD, oh, well.

Sorry. I didn't get a notification for your reply. I use Audesey on my laptop inputted from my RZ50. I didn't remember it was a mono LP until after I finalized it. I did put the LP on again yesterday and flipping back and forth - mono (L & R mains) and stereo. I could not discern a bit of difference. So I'll leave the file as is. But that is a very good point that the software would have that capability. I have used other recording software in the past that way, 20 years ago, I wasn't exactly thrilled with the stereo mix of Dusty in Memphis. There was never a mono issue I don't think. So I made mono files from the stereo files. But now I am fine with it in its original stereo. There will never be a re-mix. Apparently there was a fire in an Atlantic Records warehouse in the early 70's and the masters were destroyed.

There might be a tad less noise if you take the stereo recording and in Audacity (if you don't already know) select "Track", "mix", and "mix stereo down to mono". Also mono recordings take up half the space on your hard drive.

When using the Zone 2 line out of the RZ50, the sound mode selected in the Main Zone will not interfere with the signal output to Zone 2. You can adjust bass and treble levels for both Main Zone and Zone 2 independently of each other.
