Hi, i would like to know of a few different speakers (hi-fi) that would have good spl for rock and country, say a price of up to $3500 or so.

If i have to buy some different speakers i only want to do i 1 more time so i want some good one for the kind of music i like and be able to turn them up with out having to worry about blowing them up.

92 db sensitivity and and able to handle 600 watts. That should be able to blow the hair cells on the basement membrane before the voice coils!

The absolute best option for SQ and dynamics with this budget will be to get a couple of high output stand mount speakers and use stereo high quality subwoofers, integrating the two with a device such as a Behringer DCX2496 and using outboard amplification for the speakers. The woofers in full range towers speakers not going to match outboard high quality subwoofers. When you limit/cut the LF to the stand mount speakers, they have the same dynamic ability as any full range speaker, which simply has the addition of LF drivers.

If that sounds interesting, let me know and I'll recommend some specific options, though it may be a touch over the $3500 mark.

Playing loud music without blowing the speakers has as much to do with amplification as with the speakers themselves. You can destroy a good pair of high power speakers by driving them with a weak amp driven into distortion. I think you should consider this upgrade a package deal, speakers and amps.

That is exact. what i am doing. I already have my XPA-3 for my amp. And that should be fine. I am not trying to reach concert like volume i just dont want to have to worry about things going wrong when i turn it up a bit.

I am interested in what you have to say! although i dont think i am ready for a full on speaker build but you never know.

What sucks is i checked for a hight sensitivity rating when i bought these, on the back of them they say 91 db.

I have hooked up my old Pionner HPM-100 and i can play them as loud as i want to and no problems at all so i know that my reciver is ok (Thank God) so i guess my whole problem is the speakers.

I am thinking about replaceing them with the B&w 804s. Any thoughts on them?

I am not sure how this question will sound, but why don't you just use the Pioneer speakers, since they play as loud as you like?

Since loudness is of importance to you, if you are going to buy other speakers, look for efficient speakers that are an easy impedance to drive. If you are looking for a pair of speakers for $3500, you could get some used Klipsch La Scala or Klipschorn speakers that would play extremely loud; see:

They are known for their "effortless dynamics", because no sane person ever pushes them near their volume limits in a normal room.

I know how it may sound, like thats all that i care about is for my music to be "loud" although i do listen to it loud sometimes, but alot more times i dont listen to them loud and i do appricate great sounding speakers playing normal what ever that is.

I think everyone kind of misunderstands me. I am just pissed because my speakers i bought do not perform like they should and are blowing up my equimpement, i know how loud they should play and they dont even come close with out something happening. My HPM-100 are ok but they are not what i am looking for, i just want something that sounds great and are capable of being turned up a little bit. I thought that is what i was getting with my MTS but OH WELL. But i will not get screwed again and i just thought that going with a company that has been around along would be a good place to start.

The reason why I'm asking is because you said "hi-fi" and normally it entails 2-channel listening or with a sub(this you already have). Anyhow the DYNAUDIO 220 MKII(which will be releasedin early Feb) retails for 3.5k a pair will blow away any other speaker in its class as far as musicality is concerned. And these play really loud too.

Then definitely audition the Focus 220 II. Its a very musical speaker. With the proper set up, you'll hear your music like never before. The bass that comes out of it is unreal for a medium-size floor stander.

Really speakers have not been blown by under powering for years. Before ferro fluid in the magnetic gap of tweeters, they could be blown by harmonic distortion products.

However speakers are blown overwhelmingly by too much power.

Since you already have a killer sub, you don't really need tower speakers. Look into the Focus 140 as well and you could save a lot of money without sacrificing any performance.

Thanks, boy thats all i need to here like theirs not enough tower speakers to choose from now open up the world of bookshelfs.

Dave, you and I both know that strictkly 2 channel listenning and the kind of music he listens to;his sub will not be able to keep up with the focus speakers-be it a bookshelf or Towers. Its true that he'll save $$$ by going with bookshelve and if must go that route I humbly suggest the contour 1.4(which is a whole new level of performance)

If esthics are not important, id look into JTR speakers.
