I know, I keep wanting to return the 3808 and get the 4808 while I still have that 30 day window but I can't think of any reason to do it.
I'm usually very rational when it comes to spending money. But for some reasons, I just go crazy when it comes to electronics.

Is there a word for that?:D

Hmmm....I don't think there is a clinical condition for it. Although, there most certainly should be as I would have to describe my the same way....It is most certainly an addiction...

Well, I do have a Doctorate Degree in Waste Management, so that does help.:D:eek:

And just for that, I'm going to buy the Denon AVR-5308CI just to say that I have a better receiver than yours.:p

And don't even go there with speakers talk either.:p

Ha! beat you to the punch!:D

As stated previously....you guys are a most dangerous influence....:D;) Maybe once I have the docatorate in piano then I can go all-out crazy....but until then...I am quite happy with my current set-up....But a 5308 would be nice wouldn't it....

As a fellow classical musician, my vote is to take savings and apply them to acoustical treatments. Focus your research energy on room acoustics, speaker positioning, and listener positioning. Just my opinion.

No mention of Albeniz. :( You must've mentioned Gould as fav outside of Chopin rep. Care much for Prokofiev? Shostakovich Preludes and Fugues? Bartók Sonata for Two Pianos & Percussion?

I've been playing around off and on with a cellist recently, and while we had thoughts of forming a SQ, its pretty hard to find a good and willing violist. So, now we are thinking of finding a pianist for some trios. Brahms would be high on my list to try. :D

It might not be enough to sway you, I talked to Jacque, didn’t tell him I had a dealer for $969, just told him I had a Marantz 7002 for $999 and I wanted to see how close the 3808 would be, he quoted me $1299. I then called 6th Ave, and they quoted me $1099 for AVS members, free shipping. So the 3808 would cost about $30 more than the 7002 for me.
Decisions decisions. I could probably get it a little bit cheaper if I wanted to.

Chopin, you should call Jacque and tell him 6 Ave is selling them for $1099 and see if he’ll beat that! I’m supposed to be working here…stupid pager.

Man, I walked into to best buy and talked them down from 1600 to 1200 in less than an hour. I would think you could do better online.

Well since my living room is my theater I don't think acoustical treatments will really work as I already have most of my walls covered in prints and paintings....And since I don't have an AVR at the moment I have no choice...

Now as for Albeniz, I love his work....there's a very special quality about it....and I do love Prokofiev (have played the Romeo and Juilet Suite, and Sonata No. 3) and all of the Russian masters actually....working on Rachmaninov Corelli Variations at the moment....

And yes, you have to do some Brahms...his chamber music is a real journey to play together with a good group...

I'm not much of a haggler, maybe I need some tips. I got Best Buy down to $1499 because that's the lowest sales price in their computer. I usually give a place one chance, if I don't like what I hear I walk away.
If I could get Best Buy down to $1200, I'd probably buy it there and finance it for a couple of years.

Where do you live? If you are around me I can show you how or just go get it for you.

Well, I gave up, and decided to just buy the 3808 from Best Buy, for $1099.

I almost didn't even stop, but did at the last minute on the way home. Walked in, first guy I saw (talked to him before, not sure if he remembered), all dressed up in his nice shirt and tie, asked if they would price match a call in price from an authorized dealer from another state. He wrote down the details- 6th Ave, 1099, told him it was special AVS pricing on a 3808. He was with another customer, so he passed it on to another employee I've talked to beforer and a blue shirt customer specialist with him. Apparently the specialist has first call on to match as he told them to just do it without finding a manager. They didn't even bother to look at the website or call the 800 number to verify the price.

Then they went to look up the model, and the specialist commented that it was an 08 and an 09 would be coming out soon anway...one of the Magnolia guys just looked at him and was like "uh, actually there is not going to be an 09 replacement for this one". Thought I might be in trouble at that point, but I heard him respond something about the 4308 and it being out for a year now. They called the GM to do the price override for a $600 discount, did two year financing, and I'll be getting certificates back (for movies). :D

I was out of there after about 20 minutes. Unfortunately they did not have one in stock, I could probably have had a demo one, not sure if they would have given more discounts or not, but I opted to pick up a new one next week. All in all I'm quite pleased, now I just hope the other dealer will take the Marantz back without a hassle (he did know I was demoing it against other receivers and I would possibly return it).

And, the icing on the cake, when I got home I had a BB mailer waiting for me for this weekend with coupons for additional financing or reward points. Bastards.

Awesome, now I need to take mine back and go in and try to get it 100 cheaper than what I did.
