You were 13, what did you know? With CD's there is NO DISCRETE .1 channel. That is what the .1 means in a modern AVR: a discrete, separately mixed channel of audio.
CD's had not hit in my area yet. It was something called a cassette.

Just realized the 363 was a stereo receiver. Thought it was an AVR. Initially, I just went straight to the (watts) specs of the unit, which are disappointing.

I would recommend the Outlaw for this system, especially now that I know the current set-up is with a stereo receiver.

Doesn't matter to me how anyone wants to integrate a sub. A unit with a sub-out and bass management is the best way to do it.(IMO) Especially if you are buying a unit with that intention.

Then, jinjukuand & markw thank a guy for recommending replacing the current bookshelf speakers, and moving them to a surround position.

WITH A STEREO RECEIVER!

...and then "upgrade" to another cheap receiver(avr actually recommended)

Sorry to distract from the intense finger pointing here but I'll throw in my 2 cents. :)

Given the OP's listed equipment and use I'd have to say the first cost effective upgrade I'd recommend would be a set of more efficent (>= 88db anechoic) bookshelf speakers. Afterwards you could even try adding in the pioneers as surround speakers and see how all four would sound in the workout room.

After that, go for a receiver upgrade with something cheap like a RXV667 which should still keep you under $700 with the new speakers.

To me, the goal is to get away from the cheap gear, not buy more of it.

Come on guys!

Out of all this BS, the only other solid recommendation was the Ascends.

Pretty disappointing.:(

(EDIT) You beat me posting. Not trying to suck-up, I just think it's the only other solid recommendation that actually pertains to the gear at hand.

Not here to make friends. I have more than enough. Here for my passion in the hobby.

To me, the goal is getting the desired sound quality, not spending on audio jewelery.
I don't think the Outlaw is pretty.

I would love one for a 2.1 system. But, I decided to go with a 2-channel system for my separate rig. It's just that the OP already has a sub, and the Outlaw is the best option for the money in a 2.1 rig. Fits the thread to a T.

The bashing is pointless, all except for the CV bashing. I feel I have the right to bash CV, as I own some of their best(D7). Which ain't saying much.

Well, since the goal is to eventually upgrade everything in no logical order whatsoever, I would spend the 700 bucks on the drywall you'll need for a new workout room. My $.04

Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees or whatever old people say... I honestly would have NEVER recommended changing receivers or amps or whatever FIRST. That sounds insane.. Its a freakin workout room. Get some bright, sensitive speakers in there for way under budget and spend the rest on protein powder, fish oil, and anger management.

You aught to see the dump my 2-channel rig is in. You know, the wife throws us guys to the worst places for our hobby. Doesn't mean we have to buy junk.:)

Didn't the OP say they have an Rx 371? (I gather they meant RX-V371)

my speakers are 2 pioneer bs-41 bookshelf speakers with a rythmic fv12 sub. I am at about 6ft distance, and I currently have a yamaha rx-371 receiver hooked up to my tv as well as speakers right now. I am hoping to achieve a better sound for my music as I now realize I only listen to the tv 10-15 % of the time. The room is about 1200sq ft.
So did I miss something?

Fair enough, but consider the application for crying out loud. Who cares how creamy the midrange is or how much headroom the amp has while you're trying to get your pectorals blasted? This system doesn't have to sound fantastic, it just needs to inspire the hormone production necessary to reach dangerous levels of face distorting fury to sling the ol' weiders around. Anybody that talks about frequency response while rocking everlast gear probably sleeps with a stuffed animal.

I could've swore that said 363 to begin with. My bad.

Still 100W@1k with one channel driven.

Sure, it's a workout room. It's my assumption this is where the wife has forced the OP to entertain his hobby.

The system has a flippin' $500 sub, for crying-out-load. Pretty sure the goal is to build towards a better system, not buy disposable junk.

My replies are not meant to be combative, just to the point.

Please show me where I suggested he buy a stereo receiver? ...or are you simply trying to make yourself look like you have something of value to add by lying about what others say and putting words into their mouths?

Seriously, are you overdosing on some meds or something?

I've said all I need to on the subject. but since you've dragged me into it again, I'll stop in periodically to kick you while you're down. :D

FWIW, if this thread is any indication, you couldn't even read and comprehend OP's first post, your knowledge severely lacks, your common sense is non-existent, and your advice truly sucks.

Count me as another vote for bigger/higher efficiency speakers in this case.

Seriously guys.. lets keep this thread on track... Consider the following:

Here's a couple things I like to say in the mirror when I work out...

Hey, uh, excuse me... do you have a bandaid? Cuz I'm CUT. (flexes obnoxiously)

Hey there.. do you know how to sew, cuz I'm RIPPED! (flexes calves only)
