One thing I'd like to point out is that the 9130 and 9140 Pioneer's are the same as the USDM Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH and VSX-23TXH models and as such, are not nearly as wimpy as the regular Pioneer line.

i thought the pioneer 9140 looks identical to the elite series, is the 9040 the same as the elite also? and as do the 9540 (also what is "ice power")??

and the pionner 9140 is this unit here for $1199 http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10127295&catid=

so overall from what i have gathered up here is to choose from these

pioneer 9140 http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10127295&catid=10551

HK 3600 or 3550hd (dont know the difference both here - http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dm=DEBUG&sku_id=0665000FS10130319&catid=
- http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dm=DEBUG&sku_id=0665000FS10113431&catid=

pioneer 9540 http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dm=DEBUG&sku_id=0665000FS10127293&catid=

denon 890 http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dm=DEBUG&sku_id=0665000FS10125143&catid=

now there is a wide price range there from $799-1999

right now, 25 ft long, 11 ft wide, 7.5" tall, but this wont be for long, hopefully moving out in the summer. here is my setup...

Thanks for the link. :)

I see that you are using the wide side of the wall as your setup.

Here's my take:

1. The Denon AVR-890 is in my opinion all you need for now, and for your future room.

2. A flat screen TV (a Panasonic plasma preferably, and about 50" size) should be on your next shopping list.

That's all. :)

* So, start saving now for that future display.
And by the way, Panasonic TVs are available at Future Shop as well. :)

Cheers,
Bob

I know I said 9130, but I meant the 9040 and 9140 were the same as the VSX-21TXH and VSX-23TXH Pioneer Elites and as far as I can tell, the 9540 is the same as the SC-27 Pioneer Elite.

seeing as you have the 9140..equivalent, what are your takes?

i am also picky on looks, and i dont like how the denon 809 doesn't have a front piece to cover up all those buttons...

Exactly $1,200. :)

Seriously, for your own situation, stick with a maximum of $800.
There is no need to spend more for your receiver.
Get a second subwoofer instead, with the extra money :)

You meant the 889, don't you?

About the AVR-989 then? (Cost few dollars more, that's all.)
* But it looks the looks. :)

nope i meant the 890 haha.

i also dont need another sub for the time being lol. but lets just say..

the $1999 pioneer comes down in price, is it worth to go that extra mile for the ice power, air studios cert.... and so forth

or even if the pioneer 9140 came down in price?

or stick to the denon 890?

ie. lets not talk money for a min, obv there is a lot for me to think about between $799 and $1999. lol

i just want to make sure i make the right choice the first time, i dont want to buy one, then take it back and try the other, then take it back and get the orig. one i bought lol

Ah! The 890, that's even better (this year model).
I'll go with the Denon AVR-890 personally, and save few bucks meanwhile.

You don't need more receiver than this beauty.
Besides it's a solid receiver with a proven record from one of the best Japanese company, with total reliability.

But, if you prefer Pioneer looks, and like to spend more money, be my guest,
these are also nice receivers.

* Personally, I prefer Audyssey to MCACC.
But you know how it goes... it's just me. ;)
(And a whole lot more of other people too.) :)

lol, yea all these numbers get me mixed up sometimes typing lol.
i guess the thing that gets me most is the sound. will there be a sound difference at all between brands? i know earlier mnatiq said switching from his pioneer to his HK it was louder.

money wise i dont mind spending a bit more, and i just read a review on avs about the 9040 and 9140, sounds like people like them, but i guess everyone will have there own oppion, just like everything else.

now futureshop has the pioneer 9040 for $899 reg price
and the denon 890 for $799 save $200 right now
now keep in mind im not buying right now, so either or can and most likley will be on sale again in the future closer to xmas. so they are roughly the same price.
i also have never used or played with audyssey and mcacc before, that will be a whole new world for me when i get it home. lol.

I said it and I say it again; the Denon AVR-890 for $200 less is a great receiver, and I really doubt that you notice any difference in sound quality or total power output between it and a Pioneer or HK one.

Ask people around, who own that receiver (the AVR-2310CI is the same receiver, or the AVR-2309CI is last year model), and you'll see how many happy owners there are. Go check also at AVS.

Another time, it's an excellent receiver that keep up with it's reputation.
And this from an Onkyo fanatic and newly converted (last couple years)!
But, I still own a Denon receiver (AVR-3805), and still love it dearly.
My old Pioneer receiver, I also love it, but it's from the late 80's era (VSX-9300s).

*** Go for Audyssey, you'll love it.
