7.1 = hehe, before this setup, i had 5.1 ... then LOTR came out with a 6.1 dvd ... so i wanted a 6.1; then i thought i wanted more dialogue power (therefore a bigger center) ... then i wanted better sound from the speakers (therefore wooden cabinets)... then i thought i would get upgradeitis if i didnt get the best and the most speakers. (therefore front towers and 7.1) :D

come to think of it, even my front towers are said to be overkill for this room. the salesman said i should stick to the primus 160 (or the equivalent beta 20) for the fronts. this is what i call the vaccine to upgradeitis.

height = the base of the speakers is exactly 2.1 meters (6.89 feet) i tried to bring them lower but figured i didnt want to hit my head or something on them. plus they kind of look ugly at the center (height) of the room

surround toe in = i would certainly try that, if the base of the bracket allows it, i kinda made it exactly (if not smaller) the size of the base of the speaker. only the surrounds and 1 piece of the rear is working right now, so i cant really here the rear LR yet.

pointing lower or to the listener = i thought long and hard before i built my brackets if i would point them to me or down. but most of what i read said that i shouldNT point them to me (thats for HT not music)

takeereasy = whats a cs music?
When I said "under a foot above my head" I meant when I was sitting down, not standing....

Toeing in is a preference. I have dipole rears, like you, and with them NOT toed in, you can't tell whats going on in the rear. Its just sound, no localization. With them toed in at the listening position, from behind, you can hear every exact motion going on in the sound.

This setup would work IF, you were farther away from the speakers. In your set up, your right below them, Off-axis. Those stands look really nice though! Wish I had some of those!:)

ok im done with the 2.0 listening (set to large) i figure i should listen to this first before listening to them with a sub

for reference, i was comparing the beta 50's (or 40's) to the B&W 603.
so here's my review/comparison:

for songs by norah jones, josh groban ... i KNOW that the 603's had a "fuller" "more realistic" "hear everything - even the breathing of the singer" type of sound. the beta didnt have that clarity or power in the midrange. but then, i dont even like norah jones.

So onto az yet - acapella and the moulin rouge songs. this is where the beta 50 shined, they were much more solid (bass? lower extension?) like they couldnt run out of "musical instruments" power. especially the bass drums and guitars. i could now hear the reverberations of a plucked string of a guitar.

mariah carey ... there was 'ill be there' 'music box' 'one sweet day'
the beta 50s did pretty well with 'music box' (well enough for me to ignore the difference between them and the b&w's). but for 'one sweet day', i dont think that the beta 603 can hold a candle to the beta 50 (maybe the 604 will have a chance, but thats not even in the same price range) because one sweet day lets the bass rip (but vocals are also very important with this song)

to be continued with PLII listening and PLII with sub

i got what you meant, my previous satellites were also a foot or a foot and a half above my head when seated. but of course they were small and unobstrusive. thanks for the pic, yeah i wish i had stuck to bookshelves myself, but the wires already came down from the ceiling. although i did have a pipe provision lower than that.

you're right. i will have to check with toe-in because those speakers are directly to my left and right (i cant move forward that much without hugging the tv  )

stands = i thought i would have a professional paint them, but resorted to spray painting them myself. i do wish i made the side surrounds go further out from the wall.

If you move the surround backs down a bit. you could then have like tables or something hold the side surrounds. That way they wouldn't be clothes-lining poeple as they walk by :D

CS is circle surround, it's Marantz's own sound mode. Other companies have their own versions of it as well, like Harman Kardon. It's just a differnt format I guess. It sounded great at my last house but now it's lacking something.

Same here, CS5.1 sounded good in my old place, but with the new receiver and CSII 6.1, it doesn't sound as good. I normally don't use any DSPs anyway.
