2025 starting off pretty hairy. The wife had just left for work and was sitting at a red light. Nobody can really tell us what was going on with the guy who caused it. He was either trying to run the light or made some sort of mistake, but he was at a high rate of speed, hit the car next to her and pushed it into her car, then flipped and rolled a few times into a chain link fence at a construction site. The two occupants were extracted and sent to the hospital. This is a very busy intersection where you enter the freeway and people frequently run that red for some crazy reason, but whatever the reason, it is going to be a pretty costly error for this guy.

The first car he hit was clearly totaled, bumper off, right suspension completely snapped. Our car just had the bumper split in half, but that was amazingly the only damage. It was a hard enough hit that it moved her car sideways though, so she and the other driver both have whiplash. Her X-ray is clean, so it is just soreness.
INSANELY scary o_O

Very sorry to hear but great that it went welll....

Maybe some explanation to why police over here in Norway has insane fines on mobile use in phone ($1000)
There was an idiot on the phone while driving through the scene yesterday, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE POLICE. They got on the speaker and told them "GET OFF THE PHONE, you're going to cause another accident." But they did not pull them over, because traffic was bad due to the accident.

A few years ago, I was stopped at an intersection on red light. I happened to glance in my rear-view mirror and saw a car approaching from behind, that didn't appear to be slowing down. When it looked like he wasn't going to stop, I looked left quickly* and gunned it into the intersection. Simultaneously, I heard screeching tires as the driver finally clued in and slammed on the brakes. His car came to stop precisely where my car had been sitting a couple of seconds prior.

It was a "T"-intersection, so I only needed to look one way.
My Grandfather told me a story where he was sitting at a red light while it was snowing and the ground was covered in ice as well. He said he looked behind him and could tell the person wasn't going to be able to stop in time. He also noticed he wasn't going to be able to get out of the way in time, so he just got out of the car and walked to the curb just in time for the person to rear end him and send his car flying through the intersection.

Luckily it was just those two cars, but geeze. People have got to pay better attention.
