RCA Terminators for Subwoofer Cable

Hi folks

I'm new here, and I've been spending the last little while poring through this forum for info, and I've found quite a bit!

I need to relocate my subwoofer... it's position is fine acoustically, but it gets in the way of furniture... alas I have been mandated to move it. So The only thing I need is a longer cable to do the trick.

I'm not afraid of D-I-Y projects, so I think I'll try and make my own cable. After researching this forum, I have found that RG-6 Quad shielded coax cable is cheap and more than adequate for the job, but I'm not sure about the RCA terminators. Would just about any RCA terminators do the job (ie: crapshack 25 cent jobbies) or do I need special ones to fit the cable and for superior audio quality? Are there terminators I could use that don't require crimping? I'd like to save the $40 it will cost to buy a crimper.

Thanks!

There are ones specifically made for use with RG6 though I'm not sure rat shack carries them. I don't know what you mean by 25 cent ones at rat shack, because the standard ones are usually intended for use with a traditional RCA type cable not RG6.

OK Thanks!

So as long as the connector is specifically made for RG-6 coax cable I should be fine?

How long of a cable do you need? Someone like Bluejeans either has it already or they can make one for you. If you already have the RG6, it shouldn't be too hard to make. Radio Shack also had a 25ft RCA cable listed on their site.

I have 25 feet of cable with the following markings on it:

TFC-T10 FILE NO. E86650-2 CATV (UL) 59 SERIES 20 AWG

Am I right in assuming that this is RG-59 and not RG-6? Is this adequate for the job? What's the difference between the two?

Times Fiber Communications link with 800 number: http://www.timesfiber.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/company.contact/index.cfm

If you find out it is RG-59, here is the correct item you requested:http://www.westlake-electronic.com/cgi-bin/store.php?search=yes&detail=yes&and=1&SUBCAT=all&keywords=Canare RCAP&item_no=CAN-RCAP-C4A&category=CON&redir=1

If it is RG-59, it can be used. Read this: http://bluejeanscable.com/store/shopbycable/1505A.htm

Thanks for everyone's help! I've been able to successfully make a twenty foot cable for my subwoofer, and it works great! The best part is, I did it for under $10!!! After everyone's help and advice here, I did a bit of snooping around a local electronics surplus store, and got everything I needed. Took me about five minutes to build the cable, and it works just beautifully.
