RBH SX6300/R and Ascend Sierra Tower with RAAL

Has anyone here ever had a chance to listen to these two speakers? If so can you comment on how each differ? I own the RBH. I used to own the Ascend Sierra 2 book shelf speakers. I thought those were amazing but I am a tower guy and need the mids that they provide as well as the bass. Any feed back would be great.

Are you bi-amping the 6300/r's? If so, is it overpowering the mids? Although I haven't heard either, I have been very interested in auditioning them both. It looks like you also have a sub in the mix, so I would think you are getting a full frequency range for 2-channel, no?

Considering you also had the Sierra-2's at one point, did you notice a difference between the scanspeak and the raal?

The sub is not being used. I sold it. I am also not bi amping the RBH yet. I may do this in the future to turn down some of the bass at times. I feel the bass is a little loose on these. The RAAL ribbon in my opinion is better. RAAL has a cleaner more airy sound to it.

I see you placed an ordered for the Sierra Towers....I hope you like them but judging by your comments on the S2s...I see no reason why not. The term "loose" is not a word I would commonly use in describing the bass on Towers.

I've often found myself playing them at relatively loud levels...I'm a big fan of Tools "Danny Carey" ...if you like his style you'll like the Towers...;). His change of pace, power, kick drum, speed & finesse... it's all there with the Sierra Towers....IMHO

I'll await your thoughts once you've spend some time with them...after you order is completed and shipped.

Take care...Bill

I will have them in December. I waited a while for my RBH so no big deal. The RBH are staying however. Love Tool and Carey.

I think most towers don't have that much bass to begin with in most rooms to be "loose", which is another audio adjective with various meanings.

Towers with more significant bass output can be an issue in smaller rooms for sure. It's a good option to be able to adjust that bass output depending on contents.

The Sierra tower F3 is 41Hz (anechoic) vs the SX-6300/R's 35Hz (anechoic). So perhaps the Sierra tower's bass response may fit some smaller rooms better. The downside is too little bass for some anemic contents. :D

But he will have the chance to compare them in about 2 months. I assume they only make the Ascend towers after you pay for the orders?

Try plugging one or both of the ports to see if that helps in your room.

FYI... I am staying an owner of the RBH. These are fantastic speakers. And I do believe they are to big for this small room. I just treated the room too. I need to get some bass traps as well.
I do miss the small Sierra 2's with a sub. I could fine tune it to what I wanted and the RAAL tweeter was perfect for the music I listen to. We may be moving to a new house in the near future and one of the things I am searching for is a really good music room:D So I will have some different options for speakers. Having more than one set is fun... You remember that don't you??

And Dam!!! If only I could get my Parasound P5 back and hook it up!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Idea. What is the best thing to try this with?
You can use some gym socks for now to try to see if it improves the bass. If it does, call RBH and ask them to send you some port plugs.

It is fun to fool around until you are ready to settle down. :D
