Today started like most any other Monday for me, sleeping in and relaxing till at least noon (It's my day off). I had a haircut booked today at 3:00pm, and that was it. My hairdresser works out of her home (friend of the family) so I need cash to pay for my haircut ($20, yeah, I'm baller).

Usually I head to the bank on my way, and take into account my trip time, as the access to a bridge I need to cross closes down at 3pm, until 6pm. So if say, I couldn't get money from my bank, I would be royally screwed, because I wouldn't make the bridge, and I wouldn't be able to pay for the cut.

Guess what? My card stopped working. Worked fine the night before at Subway, but at my usual bank, the ATM kept sending me through a loop. Fortunately, there was another bank close by, so I stopped there, mildly frustrated with the whole situation. This bank ATM wasn't working either. After getting back in the car, the time was almost 3, so I phoned my hairdresser and canceled my appointment. Not a big deal, but she was busy in the morning, and made it back so I could get my hair cut. Now I feel like an *** for canceling.

I come back home and check my account online. Once logged in, it shows 2 withdrawals, at 1:00 am the previous night, from a different bank them my own. Both of these withdrawals were over 200 dollars (both the exact same amount) which led me to believe my card had been skimmed at some point, and someone maxed out a withdrawal twice to get some money.

I immediately phone my bank, and let them know the situation. They cancel my current card and notify the bank security about the withdrawals. I get a phone call 15 minutes later confirming the skimming, and she recommends I go to my local bank and get a new card and fill out the forms to retrieve my money. Apparently I was the 5th person to come in with this problem.

This is where the MAJOR piss off is. I've been saving up for an engine swap for my car. The price isn't finalized because they haven't found an engine yet (Mileage and condition determine the price). I'm also having the engine installed, and I was ready to do the swap (had enough money, plus extra just in case). Now, however, I'm missing a chunk, and still don't know how much I'm going to need. I was told the money could be returned within the week or longer, and the shop has been searching for the last 3 weeks. I could get that call for the engine any day now. Again, now I will feel like an *** saying I can't do it yet, because some **** wad stole my money.

I ****ing HATE thieves.

That totally sucks, sorry to hear it happened. Just be glad you caught it quick before you got totally cleaned out or dug deep into debt.

Update:

Just checked my account for the hell of it, and the money has been deposited back in.

If there is any good that can come from this process, it's the response from my bank. Not only did they side with me right away, but I just got my money back, the same day I found out it was missing.

Ah, I feel better. Time for Hookah.

A guy that works for me had his account cleaned out this weekend from his credit union. He got a text message (supposedly) from his bank saying there was a problem with his card and that it was inactive untill he called to confirm his info and change his pin. It was a local number to call, so he did. Big mistake. I get false emails all the time from my bank asking the same thing. Sorry, crooks, but I wasn't born yesterday. Apparently my employee was:eek::eek:

Sad thing is the Credit union said most likely he won't get his money back. They told him to go to the Po-lice station and file a complaint and then come into the office and fill out more paper work. They claim he will only get his money back if the Po-lice find the crooks and get it back. Sounds even more fishy to me. He had a chunk of money in there, too.

I'm with you on this one, Sheep, I loathe thieves!:(

Glad you got your money back, though!

I went through them, and the only place that isn't know world wide was a tea store, run by an Old lady.

Time to bust some heads.

Anywhere.
My wife and I went to a resort in north Scottsdale and had our card numbers copied while our bags were in storage. The numbers were manually put in and purchases made.
Eventually...we got our money back...

Another way it gets done is a dummy card reader gets put on top of a legitimate ATM machine and held magnetically in place. It reads your card and pin# when you enter them thinking you're using the real ATM beneath it. Scammer either reads card info via wireless or pulls unit off real machine, downloads your info and makes copies of cards. I always check the ATM before I put my card in.

Again, glad to hear you got your money back quick and painlessly. I know people who got told the bank wasn't responsible because it was a debit/check card and had to fight with the bank for any results.

Brian, I am with you regarding thieves of any kind. This has been a big bunch of horse-*hit if you ask me. However, very glad you got your money back and I hope the thieves get caught. It sounds like you have a good bank with excellent customer service. Nowadays, many of them will make you wait longer to resolve things and/or leave you on the phone for hours trying to do so.:rolleyes: It was a blessing in disguise that you took the time to take a look at your account. Make sure you change all of your passwords/phrases, and etc. Darn thieving bast*rds!:mad:

Cheers,

Phil

This could happen at any reputable, well-known store. I would not use that as criteria to determine where the fraud occured.

Gas station employees have been known for card skimming as well (if you bought gas on debit).

When you were at subway did you swipe the debit card yourself or did the subway employee swipe your debit card. If the subway employee swiped it did they swipe it on the counter where you can see them swipe the card or did they swipe it under the counter?

A couple months back, I had one of my cards info stolen. Think it was my using an online site like Amazon. Anyway I got a call from my credit card company telling me if I ordered many small amounts from online companies like a pharmacutical company in the U.K. So when I said no, they immediatly cancelled my cards, refunded the money and sent me out two new cards.

I put a credit fraud immediatly on the three credit agencies, Transunion, Equifax and the other one. Anyway call 1-800-916-8800 and you can do it for free (takes about 5 minutes all through the phone) This number is for Transunion and they will notify the other two credit agencies also. You have to do it every three months, but it blocks anybody opening up any new accounts without notifying you first.

The video is a fully built Jun engine. 234hp (1.6 liters). The one pictured is supposedly a B16A, but it could be a B18C1, B18C5, or B18C. Even a B16B.

K20's are the ****, but wayyy to costly to install, esp in an EF.

We had our card skimmed a few years back. Our bank called us as soon as it happened, cancelled the cards, replaced the money and opened new accounts the same day. I think Canadian banks have a different code of conduct regarding bank fraud than U.S. banks that is much more in favor of consumer protection. We were also contacted by the local police about the incident, where they thought the cards were skimmed and where the fraudulent transactions took place (Toronto). Sheep, don't be surprised if you get a call or visit from your local police because I'm sure the bank hasn't let the issue slide even though they've already covered your loss.

P.S. I'll start to worry if your little rocket gets into the 12's.:D
