Radiohead Gives Recording Industry the Boot

I can't believe there is someone complaining about being able to download a CD for whatever price you want. This is a great idea.
I am in favor of having it be downloadable, I just want to have the option of buying it on regular CD instead (and not an expensive CD+LP package.)

Gosh, people are downloading the music for free right now. Let's see what all the ipodders are willing to pay radiohead for the download. The comments on overclockers hit my sentiments exactly. While the record co's aren't perfect and can be said to have been greedy.........any of the download sluts that are willing to put their money up on starving artists to bankroll touring, recording, publicity, booking, band salaries, step right up. It costs money to put an artist on the map. Youtube, myspace, napster, the internet, and computers have all revolutionized the music industry-much of it for the good. But eventually, the musicians need money to get their message out, just like this site couldn't exist without the large ads surrounding this message....

Ok, i downloaded it a minute ago. It is mp3 format, 2 channels, bitrate: 160kbps, 44kHz. How much i pay? very cheap ($3) as i just want to know what the songs are like. I am going through the first song now. So far, i like it. If i get to the fourth song and i still like it, i am going to go ahead and get the cd. Can't say it's in the best quality, far from it.

If you google "Radiohead bitrate" you'll see that lots of people are upset at the 160 Kbps bitrate.

Good to see!!

(now if only there was an SACD release)

I can't decide one way or the other about my feelings on this issue. My first reaction was that this was great and they were indeed sticking it to the man. Just as that article on Overclockers (and some other recording engineers on other forums) predicted. But after reading those sources and being exposed to the truth of music-promotion, I am not too sure.

In either case, one thing is certain. I don't like the idea of it being available only as a download, or an expensive and more often than not superfluous, disc-box set. Just as Joe Schmoe said. A regular CD is desirable.

Me too - in fact most of the SACD's I buy from Amazon seem to work out to about US$16.50 with the free shipping for orders over $25 and no tax.

I order one every now and again when I put in Blu-ray orders.

Boy, do I have egg on my face now.

I didn't bother to read any of the post-download reports before putting my money down for the download. Only too late did I learn that the songs are 160kps MP3s and not lossless files. Unbelievable.

Unhappy camper here....

So, how much did you choose to pay, if you don't mind me asking?

Well, I figured I was actually getting a CD, so I gave them $10. I've emailed the service supporting the download for a full or partial refund, as there is no way I would pay that much money for low bit-rate MP3s.

I preordered the Discbox since wife is a Radiohead maniac. Now I need to start thinking about which turntable to buy.

I thought that the box included a CD, so that you don't need a turntable.
