You have to remember that the passive drivers to the work in the extreme low end. So feeling your powered driver might not be accurate.

Hmm. Maybe I was a little hasty. :D If you would like to see a clip of 'the Darla scene', PM me with an email address that can accept an 8.5MB attachment.

That's a good one. I let my kids sit on my SVS during that scene and when they blow up the sock in Monsters Inc. They laugh their butts off!

The problem was that it didn't feel that bad. It was only when I looked at the driver (and passives) that they do indeed shift a bit. Not damagingly so I should add though, and Darla's 'tapping' still sounds punchy.

Yeah, they are fine. You should see my old 8inch subwoofer move. Had to run the gain at 75% just to get enough output in my room.

My DPS-12 on the other hand, barely moves and my room is filled with bass.

do you have more pictures of the acoustics?
Apart from the fact that my trap layout has (slightly) changed with my latest experimentation, what's wrong with the pictures at the start of this thread? If you've seen one trap, you've seen 'em all! :D

Oh, good detective work by the way. ;)

Buckle,

I think its time for a new sub. I DD12 in black would match perfectly. :D

Actually, an additional sub is the only speaker I'd consider buying from a different manufacturer than Mission (unless I was overhaling the entire suite of speakers - let's not go there). That said, I'd probably still stick with another of the same, or upgrade to two of the subs from the e83 system. The latter go a little deeper, and have a variable phase rotary which I'd like to have (my own just has a 0 and 180 degree switch  ).

Hahahahahaha......

Just make sure to keep them away from your ports!! My little one tossed a ball in there trying to be funny.

According to mission, your sub is only capable down to 30Hz...

2 DD10s or 12s would rock. :D

buckle,
re: pictures ... acoustics in relation to your room :) aesthetics actually. Im trying to show my fiancee pics of rooms with "panel" treatments (sort of like paintings)

showed her the realtraps website ... she said those positions sucked. she wanted the whole wall treated - for camouflage - of course she did not know the cost.

Cheers mate. :) Yes, having now found the optimum position for the traps in my particular room, the sound is simply out of this world. I honestly cannot put into words how good my system now sounds.

No doubt, but trust me; the bass I currently get is more than adequate (as I'm sure my neighbours beneath my down-firing sub would also agree  ). Besides, I listen to music far more than I watch DVDs so subs that'd go lower would be mostly overkill.

I did intend on posting a photo of my latest (and final as long as I'm in this rented flat) trap layout looking from the 'captains chair' :D with my latest measurements, but my camera doesn't have a wide enough angle lens to capture the entire front wall (even from the back wall (remember my room's only 4.3m square :()) and so I didn't bother.

Leave it with me and I'll take more photos and post them. I may be able to take them this evening, but if not, it probably won't be until Monday as I'm away for a long weekend back home (Highlands). I think it's ok to paint them with a water based paint, but with the traps being fibrous, you might find that the paint blots. I believe the RealTraps site has a little information on painting them but your best bet would be to email Ethan Winer direct.

Hahahaha! :D Indeed, they're not cheap, especially when imported. ;)

Thanks Johnd. :)

Mike, I've taken a few more photos for you with comments under each:

This is the latest layout. Nothing fancy but I quite like the staggered look. I'd found that placing a trap behind the speakers (in addition to the corners) helped the frequency response quite a bit. The traps on the stands are the 2'x4' minitraps. The larger traps are the 2'x4'9" mondotraps.

A closer look at the front left corner traps.

An even closer look along with...

...this to hopefully let you see the fibrous nature of the traps for painting purposes.

The back right corner of the room. Again, I'd found that placing the two 2'x2' minitraps in the path of one of the sub's passive radiators helped the frequency response a little. I also have additional traps in this corner specifically because the sub is close by.

Holy cow! What's this!

As you can see, my room is hardly an aesthetic paradise. Although looks are important to me, so also is the sound from my system. The traps were placed first and foremost where necessary, and only then (if at all) tweaked to look a little better.

Hope this helps. :)

it does help! great pictures! thanks a lot.

do you think dust will make the panels "dirty" and "old" looking over time?

Bless you for purchasing all those traps. Acoustic treatment is so important. You'll be moving those traps around from now on--fun times.

I don't mind, but yes, as my flat is rented I'll definitely have to move at least once more, hopefully to a larger room as I can't help but feel that the sound would be naturally better than in my present room.

Next on the 'to buy' list will be a second sub, surround backs and (maybe) presence speakers. After that I may look into active EQ and possibly an extra few traps.

Cheers. :)

I've got black absorbers that I made myself. They've been up for quite a while and I know they are dusty, but I can't see it from any position in my room (not involving a ladder). I can't speak for Buckle's white panels.
