The only thing I like about HK is their multiple crossover. I would LOVE to set 60hz for my mains and 80hz for my surrounds. I wonder why you don't see that anywhere else. My 1300$ RX-V1800 should have it.

Looks and sound is pretty good though but you can only enjoy it until it breaks ;) Do you know of any other company that opened an online store only for their refurbs? :p
The multiple crossover is a cool feature at their street price point. The only thing I really see it being useful for though is being able to set the surround channels to setting higher than 80hz. Like if you only had enough money for an HK refurb it stands to reason that maybe you couldn't afford surrounds that do 80hz effectively. I'm good with leaving the front three channels all the same at 80hz.

Their refurbs from the Harman Audio eBay store can be had for auction prices! Never mind the Buy It Now business. To me that means that they have had two chances to get it right. You end up with the original warranty and if there is something wrong with it they email you a prepaid shipping label to return it.

Don't get me wrong, I would rather have more disposable income and be able to buy gear with the most recent bells and whistles. Buying HK through this avenue is like stretching a buck to the point of transparency. I'm really diggin' their failure rate. :)

Didn't say you made a bad decision. You really seem happy with it and it's great. It was THE option for me too 2-3 years ago while I was a student. But eh, I'd rather buy a toyota instead of a GM cuz I don't want to have the hassle of being stuck with something that's less reliable and less cutting edge on great features, even though I'm paying a certain premium for it.

We just bought a Chevy Malibu! :) Couldn't afford the Toyota. :D

What are you people talking about? My 7 year old HK AVR320 is still working fine. I wouldn't trade it for wimpy new receivers that shut down or catch fires all the times.

I bought a HK about 5 years ago and ended up selling it and buying a denon 3802. I thought the HK felt like it was straining to push my speakers even though they were 8ohm. And the bass was really weak compared to the denon....Best of luck with your new Hk ,if you don't like it you can sell it and get another.......

I know people here despise Sony receiver but any of the older Sony ES receivers, e.g. from DA3 to DA7ES offered crossover settings for each channel individually. May be the current models can do that too but I am not sure.

Bass management or not on a sony, I wouldn't own one for all the money in the world (well maybe for a lot of money lol)

This thing has become a myth! I think HKs weigh a ton because of their relatively bigger power supplies needed to rate their amps ACD. If you read some of the available lab measured data you will see that their amp sections (purely from power output standpoint) do not rock at all. It is $ per W, using real watts verfied by lab measurements that counts. Compare the lab measurements data of the RX-V659 and a HKAVR330 (yes a little heavier) and see it for yourself. HK products are great, just don't buy them in the belief that for the same money you are getting more power (so call real watts).
The 330 is a 5+ year old model. not a very fair comparison to the 659 which came out less than 2 yrs ago. Since the 330, there has been the 335, 340, 346 and 347. Check out the review in HT magazine on the 340. Much better than the 330 was.

I didn't see that one before because it was lumped together with some Paradigm speakers. The numbers are indeed impressive. Again, it did better in ACD than the 659 but not in 1,2 CD. We do have to be careful though, when comparing S&V lab measurements to HT Mag's. HT Mag lab tends to produce higher numbers. It must be something to do with the way they conduct the tests. That's why I listed so many links in the other thread. I also noticed the Pioneer VSX-816 produced comparable numbers for 1/3 the price (List prices). Thanks again.
