Ok this was a first. I went to see PE today and it's the first time I've ever asked for a refund, but it wasn't because I didn't care for the movie. It was because the audio sucked ***. This is a fairly nice theater that I've been to many times. It's got about about 13 screens and 1 really nice UltraScreen.
It's in Fargo, ND which is not where I live, but I usually make the trip to see a "big screen" worthy movie on the UltraScreen. I had to go up there today anyway so I figured I'd go to a movie. PE was playing on one of the standard screens.
1st, I thought the volume was just too low, cause some of the dialogue was really quiet; and the voices sounded kinda muffled & a bit boxy. Definitely not natural sounding. And all other sounds weren't very good either. So I told them there might be a problem with the audio; I went and sat back down, listened for awhile and it was still pretty bad; just louder than before. So I went and told them again and they sent a couple people to go check it out.
I stood in the side isle listening; waiting for the guy to come in and listen. I said it just doesn't sound good. He told me their digital something or other was broke for that screen and it was only playing in stereo... wonderful. And I thought surround sound was included in the price.
It was screen 5. He said some (or maybe it was all?) of the equiment in screens 4, 5, & 7 were like from the 50's and in the process of being upgraded. I don't think I've been to screens 4, 5, or 7 before.
But now after reading AcuDefTechGuy comment's about the audio, maybe it was OK in stereo just the source was poor?
I just watched the trailer and film clip from apple using the B2030P's I'm audiitioning and I don't think it really sounded much better, specifically the dialogue. I don't think these trailers are the best source, but some of them sound really good, like the 1st trailer for "9" as an example.
