PS3 Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD Master Question

This question may have already been asked, but I cannot find it. Here we go!

I have a PS3 with all updated firmware as of Dec. 28th. I have an Onkyo TX-SR875 (which of course has HDMI 1.3, and can decode DTS-HD and Dolby True HD). Both are hooked up together via HDMI, and no optical cable.

The audio output settings are all set to Bitstream from the PS3 and all audio formats have been checked off in System Settings > Audio.

No Bluray movies that I watch will output to the receiver as DTS-HD Master OR Dolby True HD (if the disc has it on it).

I have called Sony about this problem and each time I speak to them, I seem to know more about the product than they do and have to teach THEM.

My friend and I have a similar setup, with the exception that he has the Denon 3808c (which are almost identical specs to my Onkyo), and he is having the same issue. Boys and girls, I ask of you - what are we missing?!?!?

I can't get an answer out of Sony (barely a complete thought, at that) so maybe you will be able to shed some light on my issue. Thanks.

Afaik, the PS3 does not output DTS-MA even with bitstream. The only players I know that does DTS-MA is the Pio Elite, Denon, and the new Samsung 1400. Not even the set top Sony S300, Sony S500 and S2000 does DTS-MA.

Make sure the PS3 is set to output LPCM through HDMI and not bitstream in the sound options. That will have the PS3 decode the sound and you will get TrueHD and Uncompressed PCM. As of right now you cannot get DTS-HD/MA through the PS3.

The HDMI chip on the PS3 cannot send bitstream of TrueHD and DTS-HD/MA. You have to have the PS3 decode it.

The Panasonic BD-30 does bitstream of all 3. No need to buy a player that decodes internally if you have that Onkyo or Denon like the OP mentioned.

Does it do DTS-HD/MA? The Panasonic site only states DTS-HD. Wonder if its DTS-HD/MA???? I have a couple of movies from HK that has DTS-HD/MA.
Yeah it sends bitstream for both DTS-HD/MA and DTS-HD so as long as your receiver can decode it you will be fine. Honestly all the BDs I see are DTS-HD/MA, haven't seen a DTS-HD one.
