I bought the PS3 blue tooth remote for $20. works great. One thing I really like is you don't have to point it at the player. One thing I don't like is it doesn't work with my universal remote.

Is there a code available for that IR remote so I can get it just for the usb ir connection to use with my URC300 (will it work)?

Here's the link for the PS3 update. The 2.1 refers to the PS3's system update version not the BD version, which is still BD1.1. I haven't seen a specific date for the newer system update that is to include BD 2.0, but they updates have been coming out every 2-3 months on avg and the last one was mid-December.

If one has a PS3, just scroll to the Update Software icon and select it. The PS3 then does whatever the latest update version Sony has available. When I did this last week, my machine had the Profile 2.0 version on it.
Ok I can see how that was confusing, I haven't used my PS3 much in the past week or so. So I thought that maybe I might have missed something. I went to Sony's website and the only version I could find was the one already on my console. It was released on 12/18 which added profile 1.1.

On the DTS-MA I've read somewhere that it won't be upgradeable via software. I have also read that it might not even be something they would upgrade to anyways. So last week I decided to take matters into my own hands and buy a new player. I don't really care about profile 2.0 so buying the panasonic now w/o that option was fine for me. (I'll always have the PS3 just in case it turns out to be a worthwhile feature)

Is there any place to get a good price on a PS3 less than retail?

This does have component video outputs right? Sony's website sucks.

The PS3 comes with a multi av port and an hdmi port. The multi av port can take component, composite, and s-video. And good luck finding a PS3 for cheaper. There are no markups when it comes to game consoles.

I saw the multi AV port but how does that work? No pictures on Sony's website. Does it take adapters for the various inputs?

OK so you need a special cable, that's helpful, thanks!

If you goto sony style dot com and approve for one of their credit cards you can get $100 off a PS3 and one year interest free and 12 months no payments. You can't beat that!

One of the only downsides to the PS3 remote is that it is Bluetooth. Which will not allow you to operate it with your current remote. However I have heard there are some aftermarket IR units that can be used with the PS3 so you can use your remote.

The PS3 cannot decode or pass DTS Master audio, all other formats are decoded internally and output as Multi channel PCM including SACD. To get the higher bitrate audio you must use HDMI, there is not a 5.1 channel output.

You can't get 5.1 via BlueRay?

You can get as much as 7.1 with blu ray if the source is recorded that way. They are talking about something different I believe. Lossless. It will still be 5.1 with toslink (fiber) or analog.
