First off,i would like to thank clint and the rest of the crew and forum members here at audioholics for putting together a very, very well thought out website and an incredibly informative forum. Althought this is my first post here,i have been lurking about for the last month or so on a daily basis to feed my voracious audio/video appetite. I find the information here to be top notch and sometimes, amusing. Now,to the matter at hand.
I have a problem that i feel is quite simple compared to some others that ive seen in here and considering the amount of components involved,it shouldnt be an issue to find an answer here.
I have a yamaha 5840 receiver,a playstation2 and a tv. I have the tv coming into the receiver utilizing the analog audio outs on the television ( no cbl or satt boxes to pull audio out of ). I have the PS2 going into the receiver via toslink. The problem i am running into is severe audio dropouts when i use the optical output on the ps2. The dropouts occur every 3-5 minutes or so and its only a second or two at a time. The problem does not present itself when i use analog audio outputs with the playstation. I have the ' digital output' option on the playstation2 activated. I notice that when the audio dropout occurs, the ' pcm' light/indicator on my receiver blinks off at the same time. I'm assuming that since the receiver is indicating a loss of pcm signal that the problem is somewhere between the ps2 and the receiver and NOT the receiver itself. Has anyone had issues using digital audio outs with the playstation2 ? Any suggestions....ideas ?
Sorry for the long winded approach....I did multiple searches before posting in regards to this issue and never found anything relating to the ps2's....any help would be much appreciated...
again, sorry for the wordy post and i appreciate everyone in here for all the info that i have devoured over the last month or two....thanks !
