I'd rather give Carl the chance to answer because I am interested in understanding his side!
At one time I would have agreed with you KEW but when common sense and facts can’t sway a person, then what?
You could be just pissing in the wind.
Just sayin’
I’ve enjoyed world history, US and foreign domestic & international policies and politics itself since I was a young kid and debating about it. You can learn a lot by exchanging ideas with people of different socio-economic backgrounds, race, and sexual orientation. My world-view has changed since then, after talking & reading various books and whatnot, challenging those views, and talking with those folks. That’s’ why I changed my party affiliation to Independent in my mid-30’s.
But somewhere along the line, when people like Morton Downey, Jr. and Rush Limbaugh came along in the late 80’s and joined the fray, the conversation became coarser and all about who could scream the loudest with feigned outrage and imaginary facts plucked from god knows where. The strain of anti-intellectualism and anti-science in this country has alarmingly come to the fore and shows no sign of abating, especially with the internet egging them on.
I believe in a difference of opinion and your right to do so but not in the facts that can be proven or documented. I may not even like them myself but the truth is the truth and nothing can change that.
Look no further nowadays than when during a conversation someone say’s they ‘
heard’ someone say such and such, about science for example, and when pressed for proof blubber on about some utter nonsense.
Why? … because they have no proof whatsoever and are grasping at straws.
