Preamp outs on Av Receiver

I want to get a cheaper Receiver with preamp outs so that I can use my ps3 via HDMI - to my receiver, then use the preamp outs on the receiver to my power amp (UPA-2).

I m just learning about modern receivers and I dont know how to tell based on the specs if a receiver has the analog outputs that I need .

Im considering this receiver.

Since the specs say one preout, is this for the sub only?
Also, is there any other analog output that I could use instead?

Thanks for any help!

It seems many only have one preamp out...

I think Ill have to look at used...

Is this reciever junk?

It is the cheepest that appears to have preamp outs for the sub and front mains...I only need it for a preamp with digital input...

Im starting to think that just getting a "good" stand alone cd player is a better option for me...?

Thanks for your help!

Also in lower price range Yamaha HTR-6160 have 6 chan pre-outs

Its really a shame that really budget receivers don't have pre-outs.

Im surprised that there is not a stand alone preamp with digital inputs and analog outs, on a budget, or is there?

I can probably "sneak" about $300 max...

For this budget you'd want to start looking at Refub/used units

I'm sure there are great deals out there - start hunting

wow

That looks like a great deal, I did find a
Kenwood VR-257
for 50$,

Cant find the specs on it, anyone know if it has stereo preouts? and optical or HDMI inputs? (I doubt it...)

It doesn't have preouts, it doesn't have HDMI, doesn't have optical. That receiver is quite old. I wouldn't consider buying it for more than $25, that's assuming it has the remote with it. Those where some of the darkest days in home theater receivers that kenwood had, and that's saying something.

hmm, perhaps Ill try converting my cds to the highest quatlity ACC that the ps3 can do and see if that tames the "brightness" a bit; I read that it does help.

I really like the looks of that marantz for $300, I might just have to wait if I dont find something used that I can make use of...

I found a Pioneer VSX-816 for $125, it does have optical inputs and preouts, is this a good choice for my very limited budget? My purpuse is 2.0 stereo with digital inputs on the amp to use with my ps3, also it has preouts for my UPA-2...

look for a used Yamaha RX-V661. it should do everything you need very well, and be one of your cheapest options.

Ive read that Yamaha are "bright" sounding, this is what Im trying to avoid...

I have a Tascam US144 USB Audio Midi Interface , perhaps I can use usb for digital output on my ps3, can this be done?

Preouts cost money, so you will have to look at used if you want to have them. They are well worth the expense, to have upgradebility.

That HK receiver looks good but WAY out of my price range, I will eventually spend $1000 plus on a receiver but not until I buy matching speakers for my current 2.0 setup. It will be a year or more until I get approval from my wife for more audio spending.

I just want to get the cheepest possible option($250 canadian max) with digital inputs and preouts, so that I can avoid using my ps3 analog out with cds, which sounds VERY bright.
