Hi guys,
I'm a noob at this, so I would thank you in advance for your patience and tolerance for my questions.
I have a subwoofer (I believe it's known as a passive subwoofer, as it has a set of black and red terminals - and not a RCA-like plug at the back). I cannot connect it to my receiver as the receiver only has a RCA plug for the sub at the pre-out section. I was told that I needed a power amplifier for the subwoofer to work.
I've been looking at a few entry level amplifiers as my budget is reasonably limited. Behringer EP2500 have come up several times, that I've more or less settled on that.
However, I've no idea whether or not it suits my application (I don't want to cook the subwoofer with too much power running through it - it has a max rating of 400w at 3ohms) and if suits, given what I've read on the online manuals, I'm not too sure how to set up the mode switches at the back.
Assuming that the EP will work, how would I connect it? Would the following description be correct:
I connect the Sub's rca plug from the receiver to Input 1, the top red EP terminal to the sub's positive terminal, and the bottom red EP terminal to the sub's negative terminal and have mode switches 1, 6, and 7 on (right) and the rest off?
Also, I'm thinking of load of driving the rear satellites onto an A500. Would this be too much?
I hope my queries make sense. If anyone has any suggestion for other gear, I am also open to the idea, although my bank account might not be...
Looking forward to replies!
Jaime
