Seriously, has anyone ever heard of an EQ!!?!?!

The yamaha has tone controls. Turn the treble down a bit, use the YPAO and stuff.

EQ or tone controls on a DVD player???

EQ does not work with your receiver using external inputs.

and to add an external EQ deteriorates SQ..

Thanks

I made some research on this Yamaha/Polk issue and found happy and not so happy owners of this combo.
I understand that the RXV2500 has improved in that specific area, "brightness" that is, in the newer models. I am going for Yamaha, since my other option (Marantz 8500) is way to expensive. Yamaha $900 and Marantz $1,350

I still do not know what bright means, but I assume that is something that I can solve with the acoustics of my room, good speaker position, and a good EQ job.

Yamaha RXV2500
Polk Rti8´s

Thanks

I have been trying to tame brightness for about a year now from my overpriced RTI 12's. Brightness is high frequencies. makes a SSSSSSSSSSSSSST noise. Some call it detail. I like treble myself, and can't hear too well in one ear, so i tend to like more treble than most. So when i say Polks are bright, they are REALLY bright. I just got a Denon 2910 DVD player. Nowhere near as bright as the Yamaha. Why risk it? Get the Denon stuff, pay just a little more, it's worth it. Denon is considered the best for a reason.

if you think EQ will fix it, you are wrong. The tweeters in Polks are bright. The 8's moreso than my 12's.

Trust me, room acoustics are a big part of it, but you don't want to waste time on this. The time and headaches are worth a heck of alot more than a hundred bucks or so. I should have done this all along. I bought Polks before i was educated and I am stuck with them. Not to sound arrogant as being "stuck" with $3000 worth of speakers isn't that bad, but that money would have been better spent on another brand, like Psb or Axiom.

Hey guys. I have just purchased a Pioneer Elite VSX-56TXi receiver. I currently own Polk RTi70 towers but am going to upgrade to the RTi8's and a better sub. The Pioneers are a warmer sounding receiver. Do you think this is a good combo to upgrade too??

Current System:

Receiver - Pioneer Elite VSX-56TXi
DVD Player - Pioneer Elite DV59-AVi
Fronts - Polk RTi70's
Center - Polk CS400i
Surrounds - Polk R15's
Rear Surrounds - Polk R15's

I am gonna throw my vote out for a HK / RTi combo. I think your room will dictate how the speakers sound much more than the reciever will. I tormented for a long time over which of the RTi series to get. I auditioned the 8's, 10's, and 12's in store, brought both the 8's and 12's home and ended up with the 8's. If I were running a 2 channel setup the 12's would have been the clear winner but with the sub added the midrange of the 8's won me over.
On a side note: I was auditioning the 12's on my HK 335 (which probably didnt do them justice).

I have the same question as Team_Canada about a pioneer elite and Rti's. I have a pair of rti8s a csi3 and cxi3s. All hooked to a 52txi. It sounds good to me, but I have nothing to compair it to. Good match?

Hey Gbiz, do you find the sound with an elite receiver and RTi8's bright or smooth and warm? I do think that if a receiver is bright like the Yamaha's the speakers will react the same way. My RTi70's have a warm feel which is what I like. I have auditioned the 8's and the 10's and find the 8's very clear and defined while the 10's are a bit flat. Like fergusonv said, if you are running a sub with the 8's it picks up the low's.

What kind of sub do you run fergusonv?

How do the 8's sound for HT. I am looking at the CSi5 center to match. I uses my system for 90% HT.

The RTI 12's are now $899. For that price, they kill the 8's. The 12's are the best RTI speakers but not for the $1700 I paid. For $899, there should ne no decision...get them. Sure the fronts are crossed over and the bass is not used, but you have it there if needed and they look so much bigger, badder...I tried all 3 and in my opinion (buckeye disagrees) the 12;'s were the best as there is more midbass, the 8's were a close second choice as they were half the money but about 3/4 as good, then the 10's as they sounded flat to me as well. But as i said, if you can get the 12's for close to the same price as the 8's why wouldn't you?

I agree JC, why are the 12's so much cheaper now. I saw the price on the Future Shop website.

Tell me what you think of this, my Elite receiver allows me to bi-amp my fronts. Do you think there is enough power to properly power the 12's??

I have no idea why the 12's are so cheap. I am calling Future Shop today. I feel even more ripped off than I did. These speakers are not worth $1700 but for $899, they are practically giving them away????

JC, I looked into the 12's at Future Shop. They told me that they are on clearance, that's why the price is so good. They don't appear to be available anywhere in Canada. Bummer!

Can you still order them? Get a raincheck? Maybe you can email Polk Audio directly and see if they can match the price...or another store..

The guy told me that if they are out, that's all they planned on getting in. I will e-mail Polk directly though. I wish I would have known they were on clearance earlier.
