I've always liked Polk Audio and every time I take a moment to see their products, I end up liking them even more. I've always been a fan of floorstanders and I've been keeping and eye on what the company calls "the ultimate statement of Polk's mission"; their LSiM707 Floorstanding Loudspeaker.
According to Polk, this loudspeaker unlike any other in its price range. Why you might ask? I believe that is because they have integrated all their tricks and knowledge into these handsome babies. Polk Audio says these loudspeakers feature exclusive state-of-the-art technologies, proprietary patents, and were designed in-house from the ground up to make them a completely different stripe unlike anything they have created.
The LSiM707 towers feature one 3-1/4" midrange driver made of lightweight super cell aerated polypropylene. Its pinpoint detail is revealed by a 1-inch ring radiator tweeter, which, according to Polk, is a feature usually found on speakers costing much more. The higher frequencies are reproduced by a 1" ring radiator tweeter. Last, but not least, the bass notes are achieved by dual 6x9" Cassini oval subwoofer radiators and Polk's patented PowerPort® bass venting, which eliminates performance-robbing turbulence at the mouth of the bass port.
But what about construction?
The LSiM707's enclosure is made of high quality, heavy duty 1.0" MDF on the sides, 3/4" MDF on the back and bottom and 1-1/4" baffles, with substantial internal bracing. It also features separate interior cabinetry for each driver - which I like very much. These robust materials help eliminate cabinet resonances, standing waves, minimize distortion and improves dynamic transparency. That explains why most high-end speakers are so rubust and heavy. I have to admit that I'm liking these loudspeakers even more as I write this overview.
While I haven't heard these puppies in action, I sure would love to give them a test run the Audioholics way. They sure aren't cheap, but they seem to be packed with all the bells and whistles Polk Audio has to offer. And knowing Polk's reputation, I suspect there will be many satisfied customers. Time will tell the whole story.
Take a look at the following features and specifications and let us know what you think about the LSiM707 Loudspeakers.
FEATURES:
- Polk's exclusive dynamic sonic engine design optimizes the midrange driver and the ring radiator tweeter in separate interior chambers for improved transient response, superior imaging and greater horizontal off-axis response.
- Enhanced, re-engineered ring radiator tweeters extend top-end response for incredible details and realistic imaging.
- Newly designed Cassini oval subwoofer drivers, with more surface area than round drivers, dramatically improve low-frequency response for deep, well-blended bass.
- Innovative overhung voice coil design augments the excursion length for subwoofer drivers, increasing their power-handling capabilities and enhancing bass response.
- Extended Linear Motion voice coil design allows lots of movement in a limited space, eliminating impedance and extending mid- and high-frequency response.
- Lightweight, rigid cast aluminum baskets are designed for precision motor alignment with unobstructed linear movement and ample venting.
- Klippel motor optimization uses laser measurement technology to ensure a smooth excursion path at either end of the volume spectrum for uniform performance at both low and high volumes.
- Polk's proprietary, patented Dynamic Balance® technology allows our engineers to design out distortion-causing driver and system resonances, so you only hear the good sounds.
- Super cell aerated polypropylene cone is the ideal balance of lightweight stiffness (for more efficient action with less distortion-causing flex) and superior damping properties.
- Durable, computer-modeled, injection-molded butyl rubber surrounds suppress unwanted cone resonances for a lifetime of reliable sound.
- Exclusive, patented Orth crossovers increase lower-order power handling and smooth the impedance curve, for more efficiency and better high frequency response.
- Beautiful furniture-grade hardwood veneer cabinet finishes, with sleek trim accents and no visible screws.
- Super-thin zero-diffraction grilles lock in place magnetically, and never obscure your sound.
- PowerPort bass venting is Polk's patented design for smoothly transitioning the air flow from the port into your listening area, eliminating turbulence and distortion.
