Are the ballots from sparsely populated area sent to major cities/towns and forwarded to regional tallying centers? Here in Mullarkey, Wisconsin, I can't remember the last time ballots were found post-election in a ditch, dumpster, someone's house or garage or other place where they shouldn't be. Last November, Milwaukee had a shortage of ballots at several voting locations.

I believe they are counted at each polling station, then the results are forwarded to Elections Canada. I don't think I've ever heard of election ballot boxes disappearing.

Speaking of which...

That ballot (a facsimile) is from Pierre Poilievre's riding. He is the leader of the Conservative party - and he actually lost his own seat!!

The reason there were so many names on this ballot is that it was part of an organized protest by a group who are campaigning for changes to the electoral system. Normally, a typical ballot would have four to perhaps eight names. The ballots for my riding had just four.

Poilievre's base is blind indeed. As for the Liberals' economic record, there are many factors to consider. Unemployment and the federal budget deficit spiked during the COVID pandemic. Both have shrunk substantially since. Inflation spiked - just like practically everywhere else in the world - but has come down, as well.

As for NetZero, it remains to be seen. Due to the current chaotic circumstances, it may take longer, but it cannot be ignored. The climate doesn't give a flying fig about the economy. Meanwhile, Poilievre seems determined to ignore greenhouse gas emissions.

I like that Carney is going big on housing.

The right keeps banging on about leaving it to the private sector. Well, the private sector seems unwilling or unable to build the sort of housing that's most needed - affordable housing. More luxury condos and suburban sprawl is not going to solve the problem.

The private sector is never going to build low price "public" housing - theres no $$$ in that - so it always comes down to the government...

There are different approaches - and using several approaches combined often works - I like what they do in some French cities, where a developer has to include a % of accomodation for public use... so all developments end up including a mix of private and public (and there are regulations as to the standards that the % allocated to public have to meet..) - Then there is pure public housing, often build by private companies under contract... Finally in some countries, the government has its own builders, engineers, etc... and it is a completely public service endeavour. (the last is rare... thinking USSR?)

Capitalism works just fine - when tightly regulated.... if the oligarchs aren't squealing about regulation, then there is insufficient regulation!!
