Yes, head on over to Ebay right this very minute and see the madness that is Playstation 3 scalping!
Dozens of systems in the $2000-$3000 range with 20+ bids on them
The highest I found with bids currently at $7000!

I knew three months ago I should have pre-paid for three systems just to scalp for Xmas. Damn you settlment taking your sweet-*** time. Where else can you make a 1000% profit simply by picking up your merchanise at the store and selling it on Ebay the same day.

I heard someone say that one was going for $20000. At the time it had only 45 minutes left before the sale was over. And here in Fort Wayne, fights broke out, people got mugged and some lady bought two spots in line for a total of $16,000!!!!

Too right you are.

I just think some folks is just crazy. I would bet $10 that someone got shot or killed because someone really wanted the PS3.

This is from New York Times:

"In Palmdale, Calif., authorities shut down a Super Wal-Mart after some shoppers got rowdy late Wednesday. In West Bend, Wis., a 19-year-old man was injured when he ran into a pole racing with 50 others for one of 10 spots outside a Wal-Mart."

That is kind of funny if you think about it.:D

Just think of the sniping @ the end of those auctions. I can't imagine loving video games that much. What a terrible investment, in a few months when the supply starts catching up, think what it will have cost these ebay buyers to have have that video game system per day up to that point. It would have to clean my house, go to work for me, rake my leaves, iron my shirts, and oh yeah, print money!

Another thing is that when the supply does eventually catch up you'll be able to get one at the stated $500-$600 range and then you will really look like a fool for paying $7,000.

It's interesting that the same kind of feeding frenzy does not occur when a new receiver is released. Nobody waits in line for days or bids up the price tenfold - instead most people wait a few months because they know the price will drop.

I'm waiting until March. Should be able to get one by then for RETAIL. I would NEVER pay that much over MSRP for one just to say I had one first. WHO CARES? You had one first, but you also wasted whatever money you paid over the retail value...

These prices, as well as demand for the PS3 and Wii doesn't surprise me. Look at all the lazy fat kids out there that haven't been on a bicycle in years. When was the last time you saw a bunch of 4th and 5th graders having a backyard football game? They're in the family room on a flat screen playing video games, probably munching on Doritos. These next few generations will be the best thing that ever happened to the medical field. A good friend of mine just took away the computer and video games from his kids b/c they've gotten so lazy. We've taking away the tv during certain hours from our kids b/c Nick and Disney were on constantly.

FWIW, I got an ad today from a local MicroCenter store advertising the XBOX 360 for $199 and $299 again. Microsoft must really be hurting for business at those prices.

Nope, just your Microcenter... Other than Black Friday, it is rare to see the 360 on sale around here.

On an unrelated note: When Atari introduced the Pong home electronic game in 1975, this was the Pong-only game. not the multi-game catridge system. it cost $499 in 1975 money.

Adjusting for inflation the same $499 would now be $1860 (give or take some loose change). Playstation3's MSRP of $599 would come in at the bargain price of $160 in 1975 money. :)

My neighbor had one of those Pong games. It was so cool...back in the day.

These people are nucking futs! They don't even have good games out yet and the BD player's quality hasn't been analyzed yet. Hell we know it won't even upconvert DVDs to 720p or 1080i (just to 480p). WTF???

What's wrong with these people? $7,000 for a friggin PS3? I bet they'll feel like morons when they finally ramp up production and people are able to buy it for like $500 or less. Which is still pretty crazy for a console!

LOL, maybe so. just thinking of all the things that I wouldn't do if I didn't have to... Seth's right about the lack of motivation to be tidy. A floor is like one big low shelf to me, and I use it as such. :D
