Pixar's UP on blu-ray

I think tonight I'll do a comparison between the DVD and the blu-ray. The comparison between the two for Monsters, Inc. was a real treat for me and made me really (really) happy that I have a blu-ray player.

Oh please do. My Panny BR player does such a great job with standard dvd up-conversion that it is really hard to tell the difference. Of course, my LCD is 768p and NOT 1080p. I am sure the audio is better on BR, but I no longer have a ht due to me living in an apartment. One with very thin walls at that if you will. For my needs, dvd will suffice for the time being. But for others, it is worth using BR no doubt. Hope all is well my friend. Hug the pooch for me.....hehe. ;):p;)

Cheers,

Phil

I watched it by myself last night. The main reason I rented it was for the sound, which was excellent, but the unexpected bonus was the storyline.

I may give it a second go with my son and GF tonite.

That is if I can tear him away from the Xbox and her away from her current House marathon.

Oh yes, there will be blood. :D

Phil, I just skimmed through and compared the DVD to the blu-ray. Honestly, I couldn't tell a huge difference. With Monsters, Inc., the differences were tremendous. With Up, there was just a bit more apparent detail in the scenes that I watched. The upscaled DVD really held it's own.

Thanks Adam. I was surprised by how good it looked on my 768p LCD. Of course, the sound was a different story.:p:eek: Appreciate the info.

Picture and sound quality aside.....

Of all the Pixar movies so far, this one didn't quite measure "UP" to the others. I was actually mildly disappointed........

LOL. It really surpirised me and I thought it was quite good. I'd put it in the top 5 easily.:) Of course not everyone will like it.

Am I the only person who was disappointed?

Yes...it was a good movie, but I don't think it measured up with the other Pixar movies. The Pixar sequel I most want to see is The Incredibles2!!! I think they're nuts if they don't make one soon......

IMO...there is no reason to make a sequel of UP.

No kidding, man. The story ended, right? :) There's no where to go for a sequel.
I suppose a sequel could always begin with the house tumbling off the huge cliff..........the remaining 2 hrs could be spent figuring out how Carl gets the house back "UP".

HEH

BN, I agree that I didn't think it was one of their better stories. It didn't pull me in like the others that I've seen.

I didn't actually dislike the story - I just didn't like it as well. It had an underlying sadness to it. I thought that the quality of the animation and sound effects was excellent, though - just top notch. Plus, the dogs really crack me up. "Squirrel!" "Will you be my prisoner? Oh, please. Oh, please be my prisoner." :D :D

My sentiments exactly...

I set the expectations bar extremely high for Pixar, and this one didn't quite clear the bar. This was more on par with Dreamscape.....LOL

Sometimes it's good to drop the ball and reset the bar a notch or two lower. It just makes the next effort look so much better.

Try it at work. :)

Well, I thought it was a step up from Wall-E. That one was kind of a disappointment. I agree, the story is a bit average in this one and isn't their top work.

I know this will be hard for some to believe, but I actually enjoyed it. I thought the story of the husband and wife was touching, and the grumpy old man that is changed by a young annoying boy always makes for a good time. I despise Ed Asner as a human of course and there were few little political jabs and some PC stuff, but it was kept to a minimum and I did not feel insulted. Not Pixar's best work by any stretch, but a good, clean wholesome story for kids with some funny and some very touching moments.

hmm! some of you will absolutely not believe I just wrote that I am sure:eek:
