Is this for sale yet? I looked at the specs and it does sound appealling. I like that it has analog to HDMI upconversion, one thing the Pioneer has (alhtough the only analog signal I have is a Wii, it would be nice to have a single HDMI to the TV).
I have the VSX-820-K, but it does not up-convert the analog to digital...You would need component/composite for Wii or first generation Xbox 360 (non-HDMI).

Other than that...it is a great receiver.

Yeah, I know that but I currently have my Wii in another room so it isn't a big deal - plus, I am debating on buying a PS3.

I keep going back and forth but I am leaning toward the Denon now. It has the upconvert, more power assuming it puts out closer to the advertised wattage and the MultiEQ.

Anyone see a reason NOT to buy the Denon over the Pioneer?

I say get the Denon, and since the manual sucks, you may want to check out batpigs denon to english setup guide. The Denon receivers are nice, but kinda difficult to setup if you aren't experience with setting up receivers.

Thanks for the link! I'll preorder the receiver today. I won't have my TV until next week and my room wont be done until June, so I can't wait for it.

I know I might get bashed for the following question, but which line of receivers would you pick if you had to choose between the two brands:

Pioneer's 2010 VSX line or Yamaha's 2010 RXV line?

I've been eyeing the VSX-820-K but have an old Yamaha and am satisfied with its performance but need something with updated features sub $300 if possible.

I understand neither of these is the most powerful in the world, I just want something that can push a decent amout of clean sound to my speakers for my family to watch movies; When my kids get older, I can invest in something a little more powerful.

Thanks for any opinions.
From my research I prefer the yamaha.

All of the Yamahas you posted are mid point and below. My older RX-V1800 and teh new RX-V1900 did considerably better on the bench. The Denon 3310 is more comparable to the RX-V1800 then teh RX-V863. The other thing that these tests fail to mention is that the protection circuitry kicks in to limit the output in the 5 and 7 channels test. Thats the reason why Yamahas don't bench well. That being said, I would stay away from Yamaha's latest offerings. The only two models left with any kind of "balls" are teh RX-V7 and RX-V11. The rest are just empty shells of their former glory.

clarification to post

From my research I prefer the yamaha.
I should have clarified my earlier post (got lots of bad reputation points). My research included a search of this forum, avs.com, and amazon ratings. I've also owned yamaha on and off for 15 years and currently own a RX-V465. Yamaha has always provided high sound quality and I've had no problems in the units I've used.

Of note, I recently heard Dr. Geddes of Gedlee speakers uses a Pioneer VSX-919 AH. With this in mind, I might give Pioneer another look...

I prefer Yamaha over Pioneer as well. I have sent an email to Yamaha asking them to list all models with multipoint. YPAO is every bit as good as Pioneer's MMAC. Even with the single point YPAO which I have in my Yamaha RX-V1800, I find the results of YPAO quite revealing and easy to listen too at volume levels in the high 80s/low 90s. I'd rather choose a receiver with a stout amplifier section/power supply then multipoint room correction.
