Im on the fence as well. Im confused about the 1080 between these two receivers. If I have a bluray player at 1080p, it will to pass through these amps? or just not pass through the Onkyo?

I love the loud commerical thing to knock down those annoying commericals. That's one huge point for me. I think pioneer has it, but cant confirm.

also, the Onkyo just went on sale for $374 with this link. So im thinking I should pull the trigger.

Sorry cant link. IT's on techbargains dot com search for it
any input?

I believe he is referring to the Onkyo TX-SR607 vs the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K.

I suggest you at least go down to a store and play with the two brands if possible. Usually some place will have a display model with the receiver brand. Since there is very little change year to year usually. even a 606 will give you an idea for the onkyo.

Though at your price you aren't far from the 705. I had one of those and loved it. AS XT, Pre-AMP outs. THX certified.

I have a pioneer VSX-815 and it does a great job, but no hdmi switching, etc. So im comfortable with the 1019 for sure. But if the Onkyo does the same thing for less, im good.

I was worried about 1080p basically

So as the Onkyo TX-SR607.

By the way, the 607 can be found for $375.
And the 606 for about $300.

And the 705 does only 720p max. from it's HDMI, but it is a much better receiver all around with more power, Audyssey MultEQ XT, THX Select2, preouts for all channels, optical output, better build and parts, etc. It has 3 HDMI inputs. It can be purchased for only $440.

I think that I will go with one of these Onkyo myself, instead of the Pioneer 1019.
But that's just me. Let just say that I am an Audysseyholic.

Yeah I hear you about the Audiosny thingy -mbobber. But does the Onkyo models do 1080P? If they simply do not upconvert from analog, thats not a big deal. Im not using analog anywhere. I have a bluray player and Scientfic Atlantic 8300 HD cable box.

I cannot be 100% sure on this. But maybe not the 606 and probably yes the 607. I'm sure that you can easily find out from the Onkyo web site on their specs. They certainly both pass 1080p, but as to what kind of scaling they apply from the composite and components through the HDMI, I cannot say for sure.

If you are using your Scientific Atlantic 8300 HD cable box with an HDMI cable, the onkyo 606 and 607 will do 1080p for sure. But the 606 might do only 1080i, this is where I'm not so sure. And if you are passing a 1080p signal through the HDMI connection, then of course that both Onkyos will pass the 1080p signal.
