I could probably talk him down on price a bit. The dude stated it needs a new belt - I have a great tech and I'm sure he could go through it for me. Seems like a great deal. What say you?

Click to expand... They were a mediocre to poor deck. You absolutely want to avoid reversing tape decks. The reason is that they are always out of Azimuth alignment because of change in tape skew.

I have a Revox B77. I bought it non working, and never got round to restoring it. I can unbox it if you want, and take a look at it. I am certain I will never have a use for it. I have four Revox machines in my rack and another in a mobile cart in the studio. That is three A77s, and two A700s. I also have a Brenell MK 6.

Click to expand... I think the only belt on the RT-707 is for the counter, the capstan is direct drive. I have one and it has the reputation for being a robust RTR. I like mine and records very well. I think the most important item to check on any RTR is the condition of the heads.

I think the only belt on the RT-707 is for the counter, the capstan is direct drive. I have one and it has the reputation for being a robust RTR. I like mine and records very well. I think the most important item to check on any RTR is the condition of the heads.

Seller is supposed to be doing a full check of the unit and said he'd get back to me with the results. The seller is likely mistaken in his belief that the "belts need replacement." There's probably something more dire wrong with the unit. Thanks.

When I was a kid, I had a lot of fun making recordings from his "sound effects" tapes. I think my 13 yr old daughter would enjoy it too, as she thinks all this old gear is cool. I'd also see if I could find additional old music reels - there's about a dozen for sale at a local record store that range from 10.00 - 35.00 ea.
