Pioneer Elite VSX-54TX question

I’m getting ready to make some purchases for my new sound system for HT/Music. For speakers I’m going with Ascends (340’s across the front, 170’s for L/R surrounds, and HSU VTF-3 MK2 for the sub). The two receivers I’m looking at in my price range are the Yamaha RX-V2500 and the Pioneer Elite VSX-54TX. My question is; do you guys think that the Pioneer 54TX will have enough power (paired with the Ascends) without having to use an external amp? The Ascends are 8 ohm and (89 db I think).

I’m going to try and find a store here in town so I can do a sound comparison between the two. From what I’ve read, it seems the Pioneer may have a warmer sound compared to the Yamaha. I'm thinking I’ll probably prefer this but we’ll see.

Any help is appreciated. I’m still a noob.

The Pioneer will definately have enough power for the ascends!!! As for which one, I personally prefer the pioneer, but it is more a personal preference, try to listen to them both and see which you like best.

I bought the 54 over the Yamaha, but it was a very close race. I would have been happy with either one, they each have different strengths.

You do not have to worry about power with the 54. It will be more than enough. I have some old Monitor Audio 700 Golds that are 6 ohm and about 87 db. I have no power problems at all. It is an excellent receiver!

Thanks a lot for the replies! I think the Pioneer is the way I’m going to go. I really liked the way it sounded and I feel better knowing that it’ll have enough power.
