I'm looking for 2 new power amps to drive my Klipsch F-1 93db floorstanders.

I have available to me;

1) Phonic MAX250, 60 watts per channel at 8 ohms. Class H. (possibly toroidal)

2) Behringer A500, 120-160 watts per channel at 8 ohms, Class AB, Toroidal.

There are many reviews about the Behringer but none for the Phonics. The phonics is a little cheaper and nice and slim.

Has any got advice for me? I've searched high and low for reviews.
Class H for only 60 watts. unusual. Any advantages over the AB?

Cheers

Amplifiers?

Brit,
Your Klipsch speakers have a high efficiency/sensitivity meaning that they will play loud with less power. Any receiver should be capable of driving them and for that matter most HT or stereo receivers will deliver >60 watts per channel. For a 2 channel system, look for a nice receiver or integrated amp with 50-100 watts. For HT, pick up a HT receiver and don't worry about the amps.

I am not familiar with Phonic, but some of the 200-300 Watt Emotiva amps use the class H topology.

Hi,

Thanks for your advice here.

Yes true they are very easily driven.
I went down the hifi integrated amp road but any decent amps in this range costs an arm and a leg down here in Uruguay. A Yamaha 361 (discontinued back at home in UK) is going for 500 USD here!! Outrageous. Rotel 60 watt - 1100 USD!!! I used to have a lovely Rotel (bought new for 400 USD) back in UK but was shocked to here the prices here.

I was also thinking that I would like to try the power amp, biamp, option to see the sound difference. Also importantly I'm planning on building an Aikido valve preamp so the power amp option is the route I need to take.

I can pick up 2 of the Phonic power amps for about 370 USD. not bad.

Cheers

If you can get the Behringer for a similar price I would go for that.:)

Biamping?

I wouldn't waste your time with passive biamping those speakers. The horn loaded tweeters are using hardly any power.
