The other pop/ classic rock/ jazz concerts were at casinos/ Vegas/ restaurants, and they were pretty tamed
restaurants
of course if your talking about those dinner serving strip clubs in Vegas where the sound levels can reach 117 db then
My deal with speakers and sound in my older age is that I look for equipment that can support an representation of the music at lower db levels around 60 - 85db without having to crank up the volume. Sure I get some short peaks like symphonic music peaks (120-137db) but it's short lived. I just don't see the need to crank it up anymore. My old Kef's and Ushers for 2 chl work for me, and for sure my recently sold pair of J.M. Reynauds which provided warmth and clarity and met my needs in my room.
I think it's unreal that younger people think loud is "cool" and want nothing but to crank it up while not understanding the damage their ears are taking. When I attend concerts or play a little blues, mowing the grass (107db) to using using a drill (98db) I now
always use my custom in ear JH monitors.
My brother (Otolaryngologists) preached to me for years to turn in down, and now I see him on a regular basis. He has two Audiologists working in his practice and he notes his business is booming thanks to the younger crowd listening to louder music with headphones, home speakers playing above 100db and of course the crazy bass in car stereos.
