On the bench the 5250 is an absolute monster, pretty much waltzing over any competitor in its path in terms of power on the dollar short of Emotiva and stereo professional amplifiers.

But I have been a proud owner of an HCA2205 for the past 9 years. 220 Watts per channel, continuous, with an insane current capability of 60 amps- all with no internal fan. It's a true beast. But I do know that George Lucas is such a fan of the Halo series that he uses them when working on the soundtrack of his movies. Pretty good endorsement...

AcuDefTechGuy Audioholic Jedi Sep 17, 2010 #6 I love the way the Halo looks - one of my favorite in terms of looks. I don't think you can go wrong with the Parasound Halo in terms of performance. I don't the Halo will sound any differently than a Bryston, Mark Levinson, or Krell.

The Halo A51 has a 2.2kva toroidal transformer, and the HCA-2205 has a 2kva toroidal transformer. They have the same quantity and value of final output transistors. The Halo A51 has 164,000uF reported total capacitance, and the HCA-2205 has 150,000uF total capacitance. Halo A51 weighs 80 pounds, HCA-2205 weighs 85 pounds. Both amplifiers are designed by John Curl, and seem to have pretty much identical layouts. If I didn't know any better, I'd say the HCA-2205 is essentially the same as the Halo A51 with only minor changes. I recall the HCA-3500 (Parasounds largest stereo amplifier ever) was discontinued in favor of the Halo JC-1 monoblocks, which are basically the HCA-3500 split into 2 chassis and marked up a bunch. In terms of linear raw power, these Parasounds run with the best of them.

The Parasounds are very linear.

The Cinepros would definitely beat out the Halo series on a $/watt ratio. It is worthwhile to note that the Parasound amplifiers are all fanless, where as many of the Cinepros are not. The Cinepros will require room to breath because of the fans and smaller heatsinks. The heatsinks on the Parasounds (Classic and Halo) are massive enough to dissipate the heat in tighter spaces.
